My prediction for the rest of the week is closures are very likely.
Best case (if you want school to open) is a delay on Friday, but that seems overly optimistic and potentially dangerous.

Virginia starts earlier in August than we do and have actual snow days built into the calendar. MCPS has ONE snow day built into the calendar which is pure idiocy. It's basically saying "we have no intention of teaching 180 days per year and don't even want to try."

180 days is a made up number to begin with. Who says it can’t be 170 days or 175 or 182 days

Yeah, cause kids are so knowledgeable after 180 days

If they do allow for day care to open, they should provide them all with little shovels and put them to work like an adorable little chain gang.

Or we can just let schools and providers decide if their parking lots are ready to allow child care to operate?

There's supposed to be a plowing report for MoCo at 4 pm today. Nothing will be announced before that.

Is this report for the public? I’m still waiting for my street to be plowed, am curious what the status is! Can I watch this somewhere?

As of right now it says all streets should have had at least one pass by later today (Tuesday).

Again, how do you think the rest of the country deals with this? It isn't the problem you think it is.

The rest of the country does not have below zero wind chills creating hypothermia and frost bite

Yes, many places do. Are you serious?

The ignorance from these posters is staggering. I thought Montgomery County was supposed to have educated residents.

The above was a pretty stupid post. I have relatives that live in New Hampshire and Vermont where big snow falls are a regular occurrence. They don’t cancel school because a kid might feel cold waiting for a school bus.

And the rest of us are trying to tell you reality. It’s not about what should happen or who does it better. Having sent kids to MCPS schools for 7+ years, I am telling you they will be closed Wednesday, possibly Thursday , maybe even Friday. I’m not saying they should be. But they will be. That is all. You can come up with all the reasons they should open but until you become superintendent, you’re just talking out of your a$$. So get mad if you want but it won’t change anything.

Even if you think that, why would you accept such poor decision making?

Because l’ve lived here long enough to be resigned! We get changes in leadership but no real change in approach.

I know for a fact none of the admin at my school have made the trip to check on the school yet so I don't know how they'd be able to make that call

At this point, it is clearly just delaying the backlash.

MC is closed tomorrow.

An institution attended by adults.

So because none of the admin have been to your particular school, no child care located in MCPS buildings in Montgomery County should be able to open? Do you hear yourself? They can just say nope, sorry can't open the building yet. jfc

Arlington already announced their closure, MCPS should rip the bandaid off and do the same. Chances are, schools will be closed

The person said let the school decide if they could open for childcare and I provided a factual piece of evidence that my school, that DOES operate before school care, could not possibly make such a decision because nobody has even checked on the school. Wasn't speaking for all schools dipshit

You said they can't possibly make the call in response to me saying MCPS should let schools and providers decide if they could open. So you're saying your admin can't make the call but MCPS should let them make the call? What?

And yes, they can easily make the call! They can say no, the building is not ready. It's really that simple.

They are trying to find the wording. For ex., can childcare open on a delayed schedule? Tho don't see how that could happen.
