While I do not disagree, an event like this happens so infrequently here that they have cut and reduced the snow treatment and prep budgets in the county so much that when they do actually happen, we are terribly unprepared to handle them.

And

There's another storm chance this Sunday. Start a new thread!

Based on the forecast for Monday, February 2, 2026, there is a low, minor chance of snow in Montgomery county. Daytime (Feb 2, 2026): partly sunny with a 5% chance of snow and a high near 30°F. Nighttime (Feb 2, 2026): partly cloudy with a 10% chance of snow and a low around 13°F. cold, scattered flurries.

But the % could change

I swear some of you want bad sht to happen

It's DCUM. This place THRIVES on bad news. It's the lifeblood that keeps everyone here going.

Has anyone tried to clear snow today. My driveway was clear until 4pm yesterday. Now it’s a solid 1 inch of snow. I can’t make a dent in it even when I jump up and down. It’s solid!

If they didn’t do the schools last night,

They are closed all week

The snow, sleet and ice are like concrete in these freezing temperatures. You need a tool to break up the ice, maybe a hoe or metal shovel. It is back breaking work. No way we open on Wednesday and likely not at all this week.

I think they just want an excuse to stay shut in. The same people who wanted schools to close for COVID well into 2022

I don't know if they got 100% of them but they were definitely out plowing yesterday: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1FtacLW18K/

You can break it up with a shovel, which the schools should already have for moving snow. It's work but doable. If I can clear it, there's no reason why professional building maintenance people can't.

I am a teacher who coaches football so honestly I don't really care about the school closures because I will be at school at 7 AM the first day of Summer break for workouts anyway. I also have a teenage kid so I'm not worried about my kid being crazy during snow days

I do understand that my circumstances are quite different than a lot of others who are going to have to choose between their jobs and watching their small kids this week.

Unless they plowed all the schools again last night, we are cooked.

My understanding is that with the freezing rain/sleet you should not have started removing it until it was done otherwise you basically just cleared the snow and made an ice rink....especially if you didnt treat all surfaces after removing snow.
We havent removed anything yet.

I read the opposite - if you wait until the end you'll create a thicker ice sheet

Fri delay. But then why open for one day? Close.

To have one less day to make up. They will open on a delay any day they can this week.
