Wed no school or 2hr delay?

One of the big issues is going to be the giant piles of snow blocking crosswalks and corners. Just looking at Wisconsin Ave, the street is clear but there’s no way to safely get from corner to corner without scaling giant piles of snow and ice. Which I can’t imagine they want kids doing while walking to/from school or bus stops.

Go take a drive. I haven't seen a single cleared sidewalk and road lanes are only partially cleared. This was at 2 pm Monday.
Kids cant be walking to school in this mess

Sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owner/resident. Our community hired contractors to clear them and they are clear.

NP. And? The public sidewalks that are the responsibility of the county have a limited pool of workers available to clear them.

The county doesn't own the majority of land with sidewalks. Most is privately owned. You need to take a breath and maybe go outside and shovel your damn sidewalk.

Who is responsible for clearing the miles of bike paths in the county that students use to walk to school?

Feel free to call 311 to get an answer to that question. But I suggest you get some fresh air first. You need to calm down.

Oh i am perfectly calm because i am going to be paid to stay home all week and not deal with your moron feral kids. Have fun being stuck with them

Interesting way to put it. Some of these parents should try teaching one day.

I worked with kids in the first leg of my career. They were awesome and deserve respect. A lot of the most annoying kids had real issues/reasons and needed the most patience and compassion. PP should not be working with children.

Correction Whetstone ES is currently being plowed

I wonder if you looked very carefully at the schools. Matsunaga's lots look white, but it was plowed midday on Sunday. It's a relatively thin layer.

They haven't bothered trying to clear the sidewalks though.

The school sticks out like a sore thumb. All the streets around the school are wet pavement.

State of Maryland is opening late tomorrow and liberal leave is allowed in all countries and Baltimore City. Seems conditions are not good anywhere.

No way my little car can drive through that. It'll freeze more tonight and it's the bus route (includes several hills on the route as well) so I'm not optimistic.

You might be surprised what your car can drive on. It can drive on surfaces you might find hard to walk on.

That sounds like an excellent way to test the airbags in your car

Why would you drive that fast? Use some common sense!

The parking lots and bus loops were still blocked in by walls of snow from the plows who drove past them. Specifically, Seneca Valley HS, MLK MS, Clemente MS

So other institutions are opening tomorrow. MCPS should be able to get their act together to open on Wednesday, probably with a delay.

That just means plows came by on the street later.

I'd be surprised if they plowed Matsunaga and Seneca Valley HS. I don't think you know how to tell if something has been plowed.

Can't wait to see the threads on here calling for heads at MCPS to roll when a kid gets hit by a car because they have to stand in the street waiting for a bus or breaks their wrist slipping on the sidewalk walking into the school

We are in Burtonsville. Our street hasn’t been touched. I realize it’s still Monday but given how behind they are I don’t see mcps opening on Wednesday.

We have huge ice patches on our sidewalks here. Very dangerous. No way there’s school Wednesday

When there are no actual snow mounds anywhere inside the parking lots it's pretty obvious they weren't plowed.

Typical "if I have to go to work, everyone should have to!" mindset in this forum. Some of us actually care about the safety of kids-in ALL areas of the county no less, not just our own.

County Government is open tomorrow which means they are okay with people driving on the main roads if they can get to them. This would be a good metric for allowing individual child care providers and schools to make the decision as to whether they can open. If not tomorrow, at least on Wednesday

Again, I highly doubt our elementary school was prioritized above Seneca Valley HS. It is very common for people here to not know how to recognize something that was plowed. If they don't see pavement, they assume it wasn't plowed.
