One couple got notice that their monthly premium next year would jump from $51 to $2,232 as subsidies expire.

25,000 Idahoans are expected to be priced out of coverage.

This is what's at stake.

+1. That’s $186/month, which is still a fraction of what most Americans pay for healthcare.

The premium with subsidy is too low. $51/month for a couple? They would pay $370/month as a couple for Medicare part B only. They will pay more if they want part D drug coverage under Medicare.

$51/month under ACA does not seem reasonable and that costs taxpayers a lot of money. Reform is defnitely needed.

I think you misread. It’s not $2,232 a year, it’s $2,232 per month.

So... basically we were fully funding all these people's healthcare? They were paying $50 and we were covering the other 98%?

Yes, this seems correct. $2232 a month is too high, but $51 a month is way too low. Taxpayers should not pay 98% of the premier. The subsidy should not be extended as-is, and defintely should not be extended as-is permanently. There should be reform.

What is astonishing is that no one is questioning the rate itself. Everyone is arguing over how much of the cost the individual and the government pays.

We should be scrutinizing the costs. Private equity in hospitals and other factors are driving costs.

Why the insurance companies charge such a high premium? Is it because the government picks up the tab?

Exactly. It's past time for universal health care, just like all the other first world countries.

Most of the people who are currently benefitting from Obamacare / ACA are poor to middle class white MAGA voters.

+1. Every industrialized country has universal healthcare, and there's a reason for that. Yes, I know, everything imagines these long lines and inability to get care they need, but lots of people's fears aren't based in reality but instead on propaganda from the insurance companies, plus isn't that better than these astronomical premiums that people can't afford? I can't say I care that much though -- if the voters of this country suffer because of their endless stupidity when voting, so be it.

I'm actually kind of annoyed that Democrats are trying to save Republicans here; I kind of think it might be better for there to be maximum pain so that people make better decisions when they vote in the future.

there is no point for democrats to make deal before people see rise in their premiums. so if democrates are wise they will let people see increase in premiums and after which they would so they can proove they fought for americans and not just undocumented.
