Are people canceling summer vacations or not really that concerned yet?

This is my favorite comment here. DCUM logic in a nutshell, and I’m here for it.

As much as it comes as a shock to those on the Jobs board, a lot of us are not feds and not worried about job loss.

I think anyone who thinks fed cuts and the impetus behind what Trump is doing won’t potentially have an effect on them too is delusional. That does not mean I think everyone is at imminent risk of job loss but if you think this starts and stops at a few hundred thousand feds, you’re being blindly confident. I think it’s very plausible the man tanks the economy to the degree a lot of people who felt themselves impervious will be stunned to realize they weren’t.

I agree it will do some damage to the economy as a whole but it’s very unlikely to impact our jobs. Yes it could harm our investment accounts but those are long term - we can ride out a recession without making withdrawals. We also keep 2 years of cash in no-penalty CDs.

Outside of all the politics, there’s a lot to see and do in Moscow and the surrounding area. Russian food is pretty good too.

Thanks for the narcissistic response

Not everything is narcissistic. Some things can just be ordinary selfish/self centered. Not all those people are narcissists.

We did cancel everything, including camps. We just can’t spend 10-15k on camps (I have 3 kids) if I will be laid off. They will be headed off to multiple camp grandma and grandpas (both sides) and then also a week with a favorite aunt.

If you all are sad about canceling European trips- try South America. We are so happy with every trip we make there. They love children, the food is incredible and it’s winter there during our summers. It’s beautiful. Maybe 1/3 the price of European cities. we get sick of European hotels that can’t accommodate families (one queen bed, hard to find adjoining rooms).

Oy vey. We aren’t feds but we know that gutting the government will impact the private sector. But even if we don’t lose our jobs, the economy might crash. And economy impact aside, there are other impacts; FAA layoffs, frayed relationships with other countries/growing anger against Americans, gutting the NPS, etc. So yeah, it’s not just about keeping your jobs.

I hope someday to be able to go to Russia. The literature, the ballet, the music—Russian culture has contributed so much to the world, and I would like to see its birthplace. But I don’t know that the circumstances will be right in my lifetime.

Hitting our homes in St.Barts, London, Nantucket and Yellowstone Club as per usual. Will also make the Triple Crown and Augusta. Could use some more staff but don’t think ex gov types work hard enough or fully understand that the customer is always right.

It’s as if you put enough sh*t under pressure, a few diamonds might emerge. While they shine bright, never forget the time and stench that proceeded them.

That’s a crappy attempt at trolling.

DCUM trolling is the most embarassing kind of “humor.”
