Are people canceling summer vacations or not really that concerned yet?

I’ll add - I don’t live in the DC area but have many friends in this area whose work is connected to the federal government and are making similar decisions.

I’ve already paid for our summer beach rental, so we are going, but we definitely won’t put a deposit down for 2026 like we usually do.

We are going to France and I am much more worried about their opinion of Americans right now vs. the money as our jobs are not directly related to the government. But not sure I wouldn't have changed plans if I hadn't already bought tickets out of pure embarrassment.

We are still going but we are fortunate and I think both our jobs are safe. Everything is refundable so far (tickets were bought on miles) and lodging has free cancellation. Hopefully it doesn't come to that

We’ve canceled all travel plans.

Hell, no. Getting out of this country is the thing I have to look the most forward to, and if we aren’t let back in, so be it.

LOL do you people act like stereotypical baffoons when you’re in Europe that people would know you’re Americans?

NP - I'm brown so no one ever thinks I'm America. That being said, they know when I open my mouth. American accent and all? Or even in French - clearly not native French. So I think there's other ways to know besides walking around in jorts with a MAGA hat while snarfing down a burger criticizing local food. YMMV.

Husband got laid off on Friday.

For now holding spring break/summer trip as is, to see how it goes. The money is already spent, and hot leads are coming in from his network, so we are feeling hopeful.

Today I'm so thankful that we only need one salary to be okay. We have a much smaller home than friends, but that home is a blessing.

In the past two weeks we cancelled-

- Europe for Spring Break
- Summer trip in Canadian Rockies
- Winter Break in Caribbean

We now have deposits back and more in cash reserves. If things look different in a few months, we'll look for something low key last minute.

We cancelled our Caribbean vacation for spring. About to lose my job. So no extras. Cutting back on everything, even groceries.

Not canceling yet, but keeping a close eye on cancellation windows for hotels/rental cars/etc.

The PP who mentioned camps being an issue is on point. I have a few weeks already paid for but am otherwise holding off. If things change I’m sure I can find a summer nanny, but a lot of camps have fairly strict refund policies these days.

Yes. We were going to go on a trip to California to drive up and down the coast and see the national parks.

We have cancelled it because it was going to be very expensive, like 10K.

Well, I don’t speak French so I think they’ll figure it out pretty quickly. Europeans aren’t as stupid as Americans are apparently.

What national parks are on the California coast?
