Total SAT score?

Which instate VA colleges besides UVA?

Engineering is over saturated. Everyone and their mom is doing it. Don’t know what you expected. Just have them go to anh ABET certified school and they’re fine. Engineering doesn’t need prestige.

DC OOS flat out rejected. 3.9 ugpa, good ECs, 1580 one try. DC feels very nervous about ED round.

competitive nova public
4.0 UW, 11 AP, 3 DE math (mv, de, la) 4’s and 5’s on AP exams (5 on BC calc)
1510 SAT not superscore
Solid ECs, school and club sport all 4 yrs (captain), summer internship at nonprofit, 2 jobs, 100+ volunteer tutor hours (presidential award), volunteer youth coach, other school clubs

I’m sorry. That is surprising. I hope they get in later. But also that they are excited about other acceptances because with this profile there are sure to be some good ones. This is disappointing for them, I’m sure.

Thank you- they are okay but it was unexpected. This is a boy, and the SAT split is 790 math/720 ebrw

That’s his 3rd deferral. ED rejected (Ivy), in at 5 safeties (has already declined acceptance at 2 he knows aren’t in the running for him), and 1 OOS competitive flagship. Still have a bunch more to hear from, including an ED2. Mostly reach schools. We are waiting it out and then he’ll make a decision.

It’s been a bit of a ding to his confidence, but we are just keeping a positive outlook, because we know he will bloom wherever he lands.

This was nice. And agree. The people who applied like the school for whatever reason. Let them discuss amongst themselves.

Not sure what madness you are talking about ending...

3.8 GPA

Those are much lower stats than many others. Private school? Hook?

Early Action Applications
Total number of Early Action applications: 41,885 (37,642 last year)
Total number of VA apps: 11,240 (10,109)
Total number of OOS apps: 30,645 (27,533)
We use completed applications in our statistics.

Early Action Offers
Overall offers: 6,746
Total VA offers: 2,788 (25% offer rate)
Total OOS offers: 3,958 (13% offer rate)
Enrollment Goal: ~3,970
It's misleading to average these offer rates together because residency is a major factor in our review. If you are going to share these numbers, cite BOTH offer rates.

I have mixed feelings. DC is in at Michigan, but was going to feel pressure to go to UvA. I think Michigan wins in every category, but tuition and maybe weather. DC never lived UVA, but applied bc it made sense. Am I bummed, relieved or both?

From your comments you sound relieved. Accepted OOS at Michigan and deferred in state UVA…goes to show you just how hard it is to get in at UVA. Coveted acceptances for those who really know and appreciate the school.

Loling at this. Did you know UVA's OOS yield is on par with GMU's?

False. GMU's OOS yield is 16%. UVA's is 60%

Try 16.3%

So typical of UVA people to be either stupid or liars.

It's all good news as your DC can move forward on their college journey! My DD has made the decision that a deferral means she will go where she's been accepted and is excited about that! She will not be waiting for the next round. Congrats to all the new Hoos!

Michigan is fantastic. She can move ahead with it as her top choice and if Virginia comes through, she can re-evaluate. Congratulations on Michigan!

+1. In-state VA friend was waiisted at UVA but in at Michigan. She was a week into classes at Michigan when she was admitted to UVA. She packed up and went to UVA and never looked back (and her parents were thrilled with in-state tuition.
even if this was in the 90s, this couldn’t happen. I was waitlisted myself and they sent a letter in the summer saying it’s over.

Not true in this instance. Six years ago

Those stats are so far under the bottom 25th percentile that it has to be URM/first-gen

Are you implying that UVA is breaking current law and considering race as a factor?

You’re aware that schools can legally use proxies, right?

Gotta love the yield-obsessed person making up data when people can Google it.

Their yield ain’t the same as GMUs. Even if it was, so what?

It is, actually. Why are you an idiot and/or liar?
