Private & Independent Schools
Blatant lies. FCPS college admits are not similar. We can all see the percentage of kids there going to top 40 schools and it is not even in the same digits percentage wise. Why are you on here antagonizing other parents? |
Is there another school named Maret? You certainly don’t mean the Maret that historically has been known to take students that were counseled out of other private schools (for academic and behavioral reasons). If you’re referring to the Maret on Cathedral Ave., please exit this chat. You don’t have the range or the credentials to participate in this discussion. |
Noone cares what other public schools do - this is the Private School Forum. |
Michigan comes out today and NCS sent transcripts today. Classes ended January 10th. NCS should have gotten report cards and transcripts out as soon as possible for those SENIORS not yet accepted anywhere. |
Actually a few schools ED 2 are end of January like Washington and Lee, Smith, and a few others…. |
It is not grade deflation in my opinion. It is GPA deflation. Maret computes GPA differently. Same 4.0 scale but uses the number grades to get an average of the semester then converts that number. More accurate. |
Do you have any idea how many tens of thousands of EA applications Michigan now receives? And how long it takes to process them and make EA decisions? The vast majority of applicants are going to be deferred. No one is going to move the needle from "defer" to "accept" based on 1st semester grades received just days before. Those grades may ultimately help with admission there, but for EA purposes you're either a definite yes or you're not. |
DP. Did these seniors not apply to any safeties? EA schools have been coming out all fall and winter: Pitt, PennState, Clemson, St Andrew's, Vermont, Indiana, Colorado, etc etc I don't understand why a girl would yet be accepted anywhere. |
Last year 4 girls at NCS matriculated to Michigan and more were accepted but did not attend. Second semester grades were available later than this year. The lack of 1st semester grades wasn’t an issue. |
This is the most unhelpful reply I have yet to see. Maybe those applicants were not having a significant increase in their GPA like many of the current seniors are. |
Irrelevant to this year and to individual students counting on the new better grades to help their applications. Let me guess your kid got into their top 3 choice school and now you are trying to make others feel bad for being concerned? |
No one can significantly increase their overall GPA in one semester. Basic math! |
DP. A signifiant increase in one semester isn't even mathematically possible! Let's say you ended 11th grade with a 3.5 and get a 4.0 this first semester. Your GPA is now 3.57. Not exactly needle moving. And the impact of a 4.0 is even less if you started with higher than a 3.5. I don't mean to argue but I really think you need to relax. |
DP. You are really dense. Yes all of my kids’ GPA’s increased significantly. Get out your calculator and do some basic computations and you can see how that may be possible. By the way I am sure the official school transcripts do not lie and they seem to show a significant increase for both of my students from fall to spring. |
So the transcript lies? |
