What's with the trend of not washing hair everyday?

My DD is 20 and typically washes her hair 1-2x per week — has done so since birth. Her hair never smells. She has gorgeous thick, naturally blond hair. Her hairdresser praised her for washing infrequently as it remains healthy with few split ends, which is why she only needs to cut it 1-2x per year. (To be sure, she generally does not use heat products on it.)

The only times I could get away with not washing my hair every day was
- when I was pregnant
- during the pandemic when nobody would see me

I do every other day. Less than that, my hair is oily and feels dirty. More than that, the hair color doesn't hold.

I'm a white woman who washes her hair twice a week TOPS. Sometimes only once. No one cares that you wash your hair every day. I don't NEED to wash my hair every day and that is as normal as you needing to.

I have to watch my hair if I run, so any run day I wash my hair after my run. It's either every other day or third day. My hair takes a long time to do: flat iron, shark...So it would be a huge pita to do daily.

2-3 times a week. And no, you can't smell my scalp. Get over yourselves.

Two different derms have told me that regular washing is better for healthy scalp.

I think this really depends on your hair and scalp. My DH needs to wash his hair daily or it gets really oily. I wash after sweating or every couple days if I haven’t exercised. My hair/scalp runs dry. His pillow smells fast if I don’t wash the sheets a lot, mine never does.

It depends on the your hair and scalp. My sister has oily, straight hair and scalp and needs to wash her hair almost every day. I have dry, curly hair and frequent washing dries. I rinse my hair every day, but I only use shampoo once or twice a week. I condition it daily. My hair doesn't stink.

I have stick straight, fine, blonde hair. Sometimes it gets greasy just between washing it in the AM and going to bed in the PM. I tried during covid to go to every other day and even after a month of that within 24 hours it was horrifyingly gross. I'd braid it on day 2 and my hands would be greasy after braiding it.

It unique to you and your individual body and hair type I'm sure, but for me anything less than frequent than once per day is completely inappropriate.

I know a woman that insists she only needs to wash her hair every three or four days, because her hair doesn’t need it. Trust me, it does. She always looks…not so fresh. And then can’t understand why other women look so put together and she doesn’t.

what “culture” is this?

I would also like to know. It's wild PP values "freshness" but not being kind.

Define regular? I find that two times a week is regular for me.
