What's with the trend of not washing hair everyday?

Anonymous
What a weird thread!

I’ve been able to wash my hair once a week since high school. This is not a trend. It’s normal for people without overly oily scalps (which you’ve created by overwashing). I have very thick straight hair and I take showers every day but my hair? I just like it on my head and take a shower. Some people can do this, some can’t. All good.

Maxi pad smeller is a freak.

I wash my hair about every other day, sometimes squeeze a third over vacation or a weekend. However, I still shower every day; I just use a shower cap or towel. I have long, thick, dark dry hair. I also use dry shampoo. Lush's loose dry shampoo is amazing. Agree with a PP that putting it in before you need it helps a lot - I do it at night or right after working out. If I do a really hard/sweaty work out, I time that with wash day or wash sooner than I'd usually.

My hair is thin, fine, and greasy and I have to wash it every day or every other day.

Hair is really different! It wouldn’t work for me to walk into a black salon and get the same styling processes as the woman next to me, and it wouldn’t work for her to use mine.

I don’t understand why this is confusing. I also barely need lotion or moisturizer. I’m just really oily.

I’m mixed (so low porosity, low oil producing, coarse curly, inherently dry scalp) and can go a full week if I’m not exercising (think, work travel), but generally 3 days when I’m home and exercising daily. I spray my roots with water after exercising and blow them out. That keeps the hair fluffy and from trapping smells.

The CVS aisle contains scented maxi pads so I could sort of buy that someone could smell those. But it is wild to go from “I can smell scented products” to “I smell periods.” I mean one in four women of middle age are on their period at any given time, I am positive they can’t smell that out of a lineup!

When I was pregnant I could wash my hair every five days and just use water on my face and my skin looked great. Postpartum I went back to normal and look best washing my hair every day (but sometimes I skip one).

It's not a trend at all. You have one data point. I don't know anyone who does this. But all my friends exercise every day.

If you are that oily, it's your diet. Try eating less processed foods.

Some people can. I definitely can. I've smelled illness/cancer in people I know (just lean in for a hug). We are super smellers.

My three closest friends all have super thick naturally wavy hair that they only have to wash, maybe every 3 or 4 days.

. My hair. I have a lot of it but it's very fine and wavy. my scalp and skin is just very oily. Even my eyebrows get oily. So any amount of oil, even lotion on my hand I accidentally touch my hair, weighs it down.

I am cheap 1 ply toilet paper hair while they are fluffy expensive 3 ply.

I know a woman that insists she only needs to wash her hair every three or four days, because her hair doesn’t need it. Trust me, it does. She always looks…not so fresh. And then can’t understand why other women look so put together and she doesn’t.

What culture is clean and fresh? Are they “invitation only” or can I join!? Do they all smell good?

NP

Certain Asian cultures are like this.

I lived in one for years. People were poor but took care of their appearance and would not dream of appearing in public with stinky hair.

Fortunately there is no invitation required to maintain personal grooming.

No we don’t wash our hair daily.
No we aren’t dirty or have foul smelling hair as a result.

Op and many others have repeatedly said they are speaking about white women’s hair.

Sure.

No, it’s not. The ignorance all over this thread is astounding.

What is this idea that period blood doesn’t have any kind of scent? Are people that worried and defensive that they might put off odors others can detect? Of course they can. Body fluids can smell. Breath, BO, oily scalp, all can smell. If you eat a diet heavy in garlic people will know. Some can smell tonsil stones. Good hygiene is important.
