It stands to reason that the Ds will claim that any candidates opposing their candidates are “extremists.”

I hope every candidate gets a fair chance to be heard.

It’s actually good that Moon and McDaniel are back. And perhaps some of the more moderate independents will end up endorsed by the GOP.

If they are caught with neo-nazis, then maybe they are extremists. How is this Harry guy even a candidate? https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/harry-jackson-republican-running-for-fairfax-school-board-spends-hours-conversing-with-far-right-groypers/65-1b8fb3b1-2d96-4300-afd8-b83fdcec79a0

He’s been seeing talking to white libs, they are just as racist.

Tell us more about this non-story about a guy with an academic and professional background dealing with extremist groups.

MAGAs and their associates are extremists.

Why?

If you're asking the question, there is no answer that you'd accept

DP. Or, perhaps, you traffic in agit prop and can’t handle the possibility that some candidates who aren’t Ds are neither MAGA/Trump supporters nor extremists.

Ok? PP asked about MAGAs

Actually, PP asked about your reference to "MAGAs and their associates."

So explain what you mean by your language, and why you think it matters in an upcoming local School Board election.

We get it, you think that MAGA policies are acceptable and mainstream. You're free to vote for candidates who represent your world view, just don't be surprised when they lose in a blue county

In other words, you can't answer the question, but only use buzzwords and then imply guilt by association.

And I'm trying to find candidates who represent my priorities when it comes to public education in Fairfax County, not my entire "world view."

Good for you. Anyone who has endorsed vouchers or school choice or pressed for investigations into CRT or tried to get books they disagree with pulled from libraries (i.e. MAGA and maga adjacent policies) is someone that I won't vote for. Fortunately, those people are unelectable in Fairfax

The left banned 'Off Mice and Men,' Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,' and Dr. Seuss books. Are they now MAGA adjacent? Interdistrict school choice has existed in FCPS for decades, as well school choice for families with IEPs.

Liar.

Stop spreading MAGA lies.

The Seuss family business decided to stop producing/selling books. That’s not “banning”.

It rather seems like they were stampeded into that decision, and did it to stop the entire oeuvre from being banished.

Note that after they stopped producing/selling those books, you also stopped being able to purchase them on Ebay, which blocked the ISBN. This ban still seems in effect, though they've stopped hunting the title. Multiple libraries purged it from their collections. But ALA is never going to mention it during banned books week.

I think we're at a point where the one-party rule of the Democratic party has poised a negative effect on our county. It seems like Fairfax County was the most propitious under a bipartisan rule where the best non-partisan rule would help us succeed.

I think we are at a point where Fairfax county made emergency decisions during a pandemic that left people mad. It also made people realize that as humans we have less control over the world than we think we do which leads to more fear. The county was most prosperous during non pandemic non emergency times.

Most importantly they want you money.

School Choice, you all know you pay for that garbage right? And Youngkin will pocket those monies he's already got a plan in place with DeVos for relgious privates to funel monies tool

But hey Virginians were dumb enough to believe his lies so my guess is Virgina is totally ok with becoming Alabama or Arkansaw or Misouri.

I thought school choice was a problem until the Ds closed school for a year. Change my mind. I taught in inner city DC so probably know more about education than most.

And I don’t think the Rs lied about CRT. I think the Ds are gaslighting on that topic & I think McAuliffe messed up saying parents shouldn’t have a say.

When the Rs ban a book - you just can’t get it at school.
When the libs ban a book you don’t have access to it anywhere and they pressure book stores not to sell it either.

They decided to stop selling a few books with racist portrayals.

A little different than Rs banning books that discuss racism or LGBTQ topics.

They weren't very thorough, DD's reading group is doing Of Mice and Men, or are you referring to Off Mice and Men which does seem to have been effectively wiped from the internet

For all the talk about R censorhsip - what have the Rs thoroughly banned in FCPS? They are probably still reading Beloved here.

They haven't been elected in Fairfax. If you want to look state wide to see what would happen:

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Shatter Me series of 6 books by Tahereh Mafi (Defy Me, Ignite Me, Restore Me, Shatter Me, Imagine Me, Unravel Me)
Tar Baby by Toni Morrison
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
Sula by Toni Morrison
Love by Toni Morrison
The Tale of the Body Thief by Anne Rice
Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson
Empire of Storms by Sarah Maas
Bag of Bones by Stephen King
11/22/63: A Novel by Stephen King
It by Stephen King
Furyborn by Claire Legrand

My biggest concern is that the current board banned math, chemistry, physics, history and English text books from the entire FCPS.

They banned them? Really? Not, they don’t use textbooks anymore…but they straight up banned them? Can you show me a link?

Exactly. DCUM being dramatic again.

You spelled “lying MAGA trash” wrong.

It's the constant effort to come up with litmus tests to exclude and denigrate candidates - and it is mostly local Democrats who do this - that I find ridiculous.

Candidates are responsible for their own actions. If they choose to partner with MAGAs, then they will face the consequences. It’s not some arbitrary litmus test. It speaks volumes about priorities and values.

Currently, it's the voters facing the consequences, the deteriorating public schools for example. How can someone blame MAGA on this.

Do you really think most people are unhappy with the schools that their kids attend? No surveys actually support that view. I guess you're banking on everyone thinking their own kids' school is an exception

+1

MAGAs trying to hype up issues to push their agenda.

I voted for Obama, Clinton, and Biden. Have given thousands to Democratic candidates over the years.

Like our schools (the administrators and teachers) but am deeply worried about their futures, disgusted with the neglect, incompetence and hypocrisy of the current SB, and prepared to cross party lines this fall in local elections.

That is not MAGA speaking; that's a taxpayer and parent. And the more the FCDC party hacks - hideously nasty, self-serving creeps - try to paint us into a corner, the more likely we are to consider independent and GOP-endorsed candidates this fall.

I am the same as above PP, Democrats have been taking voters like us for guaranteed for far too long, this gonna come back to bite them. I am not voting for a D candidate for school board, I am done.

No one cares, Karen. We all know you are an R playing D on the internet.

If 1/6/21 isn’t evidence enough for you, then you’re either brainwashed, brain dead or in on the grift. And sadly, the attempt to prevent a peaceful transfer of power is just the tip of the iceberg, but I’m sure y’all don’t believe in icebergs either.

If one year of full virtual isn’t enough evidence for you I don’t think you know enough about education to have an opinion.

There isn't one 1/6 supporter running and it's irrelevant, as this is Fairfax, not DC. Whoever is elected will have an immediate, and personal impact on everyone in the county. The current board is tanking the school system. We need to stop the ship from sinking.

Are they? My kids are doing great. We love their school. Most neighbors seem very happy with the schools.

Same. People may quip about a random teacher here or there but that's normal. As far as FCPS, we're happy. We have 2 in HS, 1 in middle, 1 in ES.

When one party’s platform consists largely of “ Here’s a list of types of people I don’t think should exist” they lose their seat at the table. Now go clutch your white supremacist pearls somewhere else.

In total agreement. The county and FCPS in particular functioned much better when there wasn’t total dominance by preening, hypocritical, incompetent buffoons like the current all-D School Board. And they need to stop using Covid as an excuse for all their malfeasance - people see through that nonsense.
