It stands to reason that the Ds will claim that any candidates opposing their candidates are “extremists.”

I hope every candidate gets a fair chance to be heard.

It’s actually good that Moon and McDaniel are back. And perhaps some of the more moderate independents will end up endorsed by the GOP.

MAGAs and their associates are extremists.

Why?

If you're asking the question, there is no answer that you'd accept

DP. Or, perhaps, you traffic in agit prop and can’t handle the possibility that some candidates who aren’t Ds are neither MAGA/Trump supporters nor extremists.

Ok? PP asked about MAGAs

Actually, PP asked about your reference to "MAGAs and their associates."

So explain what you mean by your language, and why you think it matters in an upcoming local School Board election.

We get it, you think that MAGA policies are acceptable and mainstream. You're free to vote for candidates who represent your world view, just don't be surprised when they lose in a blue county

In other words, you can't answer the question, but only use buzzwords and then imply guilt by association.

And I'm trying to find candidates who represent my priorities when it comes to public education in Fairfax County, not my entire "world view."

Good for you. Anyone who has endorsed vouchers or school choice or pressed for investigations into CRT or tried to get books they disagree with pulled from libraries (i.e. MAGA and maga adjacent policies) is someone that I won't vote for. Fortunately, those people are unelectable in Fairfax

The left banned 'Off Mice and Men,' Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,' and Dr. Seuss books. Are they now MAGA adjacent? Interdistrict school choice has existed in FCPS for decades, as well school choice for families with IEPs.

They weren't very thorough, DD's reading group is doing Of Mice and Men, or are you referring to Off Mice and Men which does seem to have been effectively wiped from the internet

For all the talk about R censorhsip - what have the Rs thoroughly banned in FCPS? They are probably still reading Beloved here.

They haven't been elected in Fairfax. If you want to look state wide to see what would happen:

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Shatter Me series of 6 books by Tahereh Mafi (Defy Me, Ignite Me, Restore Me, Shatter Me, Imagine Me, Unravel Me)
Tar Baby by Toni Morrison
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
Sula by Toni Morrison
Love by Toni Morrison
The Tale of the Body Thief by Anne Rice
Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson
Empire of Storms by Sarah Maas
Bag of Bones by Stephen King
11/22/63: A Novel by Stephen King
It by Stephen King
Furyborn by Claire Legrand

My biggest concern is that the current board banned math, chemistry, physics, history and English text books from the entire FCPS.

It's the constant effort to come up with litmus tests to exclude and denigrate candidates - and it is mostly local Democrats who do this - that I find ridiculous.

Candidates are responsible for their own actions. If they choose to partner with MAGAs, then they will face the consequences. It’s not some arbitrary litmus test. It speaks volumes about priorities and values.

Currently, it's the voters facing the consequences, the deteriorating public schools for example. How can someone blame MAGA on this.

Do you really think most people are unhappy with the schools that their kids attend? No surveys actually support that view. I guess you're banking on everyone thinking their own kids' school is an exception

+1

MAGAs trying to hype up issues to push their agenda.

I voted for Obama, Clinton, and Biden. Have given thousands to Democratic candidates over the years.

Like our schools (the administrators and teachers) but am deeply worried about their futures, disgusted with the neglect, incompetence and hypocrisy of the current SB, and prepared to cross party lines this fall in local elections.

That is not MAGA speaking; that's a taxpayer and parent. And the more the FCDC party hacks - hideously nasty, self-serving creeps - try to paint us into a corner, the more likely we are to consider independent and GOP-endorsed candidates this fall.

I am the same as above PP, Democrats have been taking voters like us for guaranteed for far too long, this gonna come back to bite them. I am not voting for a D candidate for school board, I am done.

Cheryl Buford was reasonable. Certainly would have made a far better at-large member than Omeish or Keys Gamarra.

Anastasia Karloutsis would have been OK. Priscilla DeStefano seemed like a lightweight, but again Omeish and Keys Gamarra have shown they aren't exactly heavy hitters.

The FCDC and their proxies will claim any candidate they have not endorsed is unreasonable and extremist.

Exactly. DCUM being dramatic again.

Just have an organization host a debate and get this over with and alleviate voter concerns. The Democratic candidates in would never do it, as they’d get demolished. The Republicans running have professional experience and academic credentials that demolish the other side. If parents want a school district based on competency and accountability, they won’t vote blue no matter who.

But hey Virginians were dumb enough to believe his lies so my guess is Virgina is totally ok with becoming Alabama or Arkansaw or Misouri.

Keeping in mind that currently FCPS takes my money and gives us zilch ( McLean HS), school choice doesn’t seem like a bad idea. So, Democrats are taking all my money and putting me at the very bottom of benefits, I think I need to explore other options. NOVA republicans are so called RINOs, no MAGAs here. Also, I think Youngin is doing a decent job, so there’s that.

So why don't you move to Mount Vernon pyramid? There you'll pay far less money in property taxes to FCPS and you'll obtain all the wonderful benefits that FCPS gives away to pyramids like MVHS that you seem to be so jealous of. That would be the perfect win-win for you, wouldn't it?

DP, but FCPS has screwed both Mount Vernon and McLean, just in different ways. FCPS made sure everyone knows they think Mount Vernon is a school to be avoided when they spent well over $40M expanding West Potomac to 3000 seats so no kids in the West Po district would have to move to Mount Vernon, even though MVHS is under-enrolled and has capacity.

And that was 100% courtesy of the Democrats on the School Board, who apparently think equity is important unless they decide, well, it really isn’t.
