I also found it fascinating that police are basically admitting they are engaging in a work stoppage on traffic stops because of the national convo on racial bias in policing. They are doing a third of the stops they used to. Their workforce is not at a third of the level that it was. And everyone is just...okay with this?

I do, too. That’s not what I see, though. I’m afraid she’s going to join Jawando in attacking our police. We have hard-working men and women in MCPD who show up daily and serve this community with respect and integrity. They don’t deserve the absolute disdain that comes their way from the county. They DO deserve to feel supported in their job.

With rising crime and a diminishing police force, I want to know what she’s going to do to help. She’s on the Public Safety Committee. These problems are hers to solve. What will she do to make this county more attractive to police recruits after years of being vilified by this council?

She is fighting for the marginalized in MoCo. She's not anti-police, she's pro-social justice. I'm sorry that fighting institutional racism is uncomfortable, but it needs be done.

They didn't say they reduced traffic enforcement to comply with any Council directives. They indicated their officers are refusing to conduct traffic stops. What exactly are they doing with their time?

Maybe the hard-working men and women in MCPD could start by saying that the FOP doesn't speak for them? And yes, while there are hard-working men and women in MCPD who show up daily and serve this community with respect and integrity, there are also unfortunately police officers in MCPD who don't.

You are aware of the increased crime in the county, correct? And the fact the police force is severely understaffed? They do far more than conduct traffic stops. It’s hard to focus on traffic stops when you are constantly being called to calls.

I know it’s fun to play the “all cops are bad” game, but it won’t work here. We have a great department, and we still do in spite of the council’s hostility toward it.
