Relax, Kristin.
Nice try. I just appreciate people who step up, run a hard-fought campaign, and actually CARE about social justice.
I do, too. That’s not what I see, though. I’m afraid she’s going to join Jawando in attacking our police. We have hard-working men and women in MCPD who show up daily and serve this community with respect and integrity. They don’t deserve the absolute disdain that comes their way from the county. They DO deserve to feel supported in their job. With rising crime and a diminishing police force, I want to know what she’s going to do to help. She’s on the Public Safety Committee. These problems are hers to solve. What will she do to make this county more attractive to police recruits after years of being vilified by this council? Public safety affects ALL of us.
Why would you trust a police force that dropped to traffic enforcement efforts by two thirds because of "everything that's going on" and now claims to be understaffed? You are a gullible bunch, aren't you.
They don’t CLAIM to be understaffed. They ARE understaffed. https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2023/02/the-struggle-to-fill-police-911-call-taker-positions-in-montgomery-county/ They don’t refuse to do traffic enforcement. They are being discouraged to! Heck, that’s one of the things the council wants: police no longer enforcing traffic. I am not gullible. My eyes are WIDE open.
They didn't say they reduced traffic enforcement to comply with any Council directives. They indicated their officers are refusing to conduct traffic stops. What exactly are they doing with their time?
You are aware of the increased crime in the county, correct? And the fact the police force is severely understaffed? They do far more than conduct traffic stops. It’s hard to focus on traffic stops when you are constantly being called to calls. I know it’s fun to play the “all cops are bad” game, but it won’t work here. We have a great department, and we still do in spite of the council’s hostility toward it.
