Why are people more sympathetic to Lindsay Clancy than Andrea Yates? (Child death mentioned)

Comparing PPD to depression is interesting and the lack of care for mental illness

My mother has cancer and is treated like a queen with services, hospital care and even wigs covered

I have terrible PPD, but can’t for the life of me find a therapist.
Thankfully my OB will prescribe Zoloft to keep me sane but actual care or treatment is impossible to find.

Very true. Many of the school shooters had mental illness no sympathy for them. They stand trial and our imprisoned. We can't have different rules based on sex , race and I'd they have given birth.

I think mental illness is now so pervasive and many of the people suffering may be in denial. The ones seeking help are probably the milder ones. It’s not easy to identify and seek help for someone who doesn’t want to admit there’s a problem.

Yes, she moved quick. Husband was gone 30 minutes, that's less than 10 min to kill each child and jump out of the window. It was reported there was obvious signs of trauma, so it sounds like they fought. It didn't happen in the middle of the night while they were asleep with sleep medication. It must have been a violent struggle with the 2 oldest kids.

This wasn’t a situation where she drove them off a cliff or something all at once. She strangled each child. She watched her child die at her hands and then still went to the next to do it again. She is an absolute monster. Why didn’t she throw the kids out the window? It just seems so thought out and brutal and horrible.

Andrea Yates husband should've been charged! Male çhauvenist PIG! She didn't want more children and she checked herself into a hospital only to have him check her out. She home schooled kept house all the while following his demands on what a mother, wife should be in the eyes of GOD! He worked for I believe NASA and got breaks from the kids. She told him she hearing voices. He didn't care I believe he thought it was for attention or to get out of her duties.

And to those that call her a MONSTER? YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING! We as a society need to ask for her forgiveness for being so misinformed and useless to her mental health issues she suffered from. Her pig of a husband didn't care! The only MONSTER THERE IS THE RELENTLESS ILLNESS THAT HAS NO PREJUDICE ON WHO IT CONSUMES! GET INFORMED! THERE CANT BE THAT MANY DERELICTS OF HUMANITY

It is kind of nuts how long it would have taken with each separate child. Same with drowning or smothering. It was take a full minute or two for each one, while they fought.

I don’t think “most” mass shooters are mentally ill. Yes there are some - the Sandy Hook shooter and the Virginia Tech shooter both come to mind. Definite serious mental illness there and clearly a lot of suffering. But others were impulsive or motivated by revenge or just had violent personalities. Not much different than your run of the mill violent criminals and gang members.

Serious PPD often comes with intrusive thoughts - she may have been, literally, “hearing voices.” And as a PP has mentioned it’s so hard to get mental health care plus people suffering from mental illness can downplay their symptoms or act normal in a way that a person suffering from cancer or heart disease really can’t.

How do you define "serious mental illness"? There are varying degrees of "serious mental illness."
Is a "violent personality" itself a mental illness? Why do you think a "run of the mill violent criminal" is not mentally ill?

Looks and timing. Andrea Yates was considered dowdy, unrelatable, very Duggar-like at that time. This young lady is very IG pretty and what the present day world sees as attractive.

There’s a sector of Mommy and family bloggers and followers who can relate to her and see themselves in her.

People still look down upon women who have more than 4 kids and ask are they religious, are they Mormon, people involved in the Quiverful movement and others are still deemed differently or abnormal.
