This at a time when the UK is already kind of in a low period with everything else going on. One of the darkest days in their history.

The thing I appreciate about the English monarchy is that they withstood the revolutions that swept Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries. For all their faults, I feel that they served as a force for stability that helped the UK avoid disasters like the French and Bolshevik Revolutions, and helped the UK avoid insanities like fascism.

The Queen was kind of boring and ambivalent about change, which is pretty reflective of the British national character. It's served them pretty well.

"Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and including Liz Truss, born 101 years later in 1975, and appointed by the Queen earlier this week."

Yes - I was struck by the time span.

Please. If you know anything about the history of the UK, you know that this is not one of their darkest days in history. Not even close.

I think they were racing against time at that point, given the timeline. Leaving Harry behind so her own children could get there probably made sense.

I really hope this is the case.

How do you know Harry wasn't there?

I kind of feel like she lost her will to live after Prince Philip passed.

So special and fitting.

I fell in love with her all over again watching the Crown over the pandemic.

What a wonderful person.

A singular lady. Obviously at 96 it shouldn't be a surprise and yet she always just kept going and now she's not.

I’m with you. I am like, she’s 96 but I had chills when I read the news. This is emotional.

Yes, very common in long-married couples for the surviving spouse to go not long after the first.
