Highland park IL shooting

I don't think you have it quite right. The left doesn't want any of the shooters to have easy access to weapons, so they want to ban the weapons. Whereas I would be happy to see these "known to police" types appearing on the NICS so that they cannot legally purchase the weapons.

Republicans made it harder to deny guns to delusional people. They have done nothing.

The problem is this guy is a right wing trump supporter. The right does not want to stop people like that from getting a gun or stop them from doing anything. Remember when you see these militia types a lot of them are very similar to the shooter.

+1 That’s literally THE FIRST THING THEY DID with their 2017 trifecta.

In Indiana, as the legislature was considering eliminating the need for a permit to concealed carry a handgun, the police were very outspoken in opposition to the legislation. The legislature didn't care. I think it's fairly common for police to oppose looser gun laws.

Don't need to go that far, just look at Hogan's action (prior page) a day after a mass shooting. Vicious.

They want you atomized at home, in a gated community, with a bunch of guns in your closet and bars on your windows listening to their media.

High powered guns that rapidly kill on the streets of this country is EXACTLY PART OF THEIR PLAN. The more gun crimes and chaos, the better it is for Republicans to enact their goals and policies.

Also, the school shootings are all part of the Republican's plans to end public schools. As more people get scared and pull their kids out, the school systems - particularly in Red States - will collapse. They want to force mothers to stay at-home and do home schooling. This will just keep successive generations poor and uneducated.

It's all part of the game and you didn't even realized you're already on the playing field.

Definitely true. The Federalist, a well known right wing site, had an article up right after Uvalde about how homeschooling was the answer to school shootings. When the Republicans establish “competitive autocracy,” they might pass a wage subsidy for single income households with children. Incentivize women leaving the workforce. Keep women from accessing effective BC by calling them abortifacients. They’ve been perfectly open about their goals. It’s on their websites! It’s a matter of how far they go, not whether we go there.

Libs say they want in-depth background checks and waiting periods for guns, right ? Yes or no?

If yes, then all the people applying for MD permits will be subject to VERY in-depth background checks (I’m doing it in MD right now. Requires photo, 8 hours classroom training, range training, a demonstration of proficiency test, a firearm laws test, fingerprints, 3 non-family references and a application fee. Wait time is currently 90-120 days)

So that’s basically what libs want for guns, right? This is the exact stuff they say should be required for a gun. And that’s what everyone applying for a MD permit is doing.

But NOW it’s not good enough. Now it’s a problem. All the stuff you all said you wanted in the past, isn’t enough now.

Please explain why the goalposts have wheels on them.

I'm a Democrat and don't care for Hogan as much as others do, but this is unfair to Hogan. He is literally acting in accordance with a SCOTUS ruling. And it's not very different from what happened in other states (even liberal ones like California): https://www.politico.com/news/2022/06/23/california-concealed-carry-laws-could-be-out-the-window-under-scotus-decision-00041740

It's telling for how consequential the SCOTUS decision is, but I think there isn't a lot Hogan could have done differently other than call for new legislation that would be compliant with the decision (as Newsom has done).

Bingo. Spot on.

Republicans probably put him up to it so the next day they can tell their constituents to go buy more guns and boost sales.

I would like all gun owners to go through that licensing and registration. I also want certain firearms banned and illegal to own as well as high capacity magazines. I also want all this to be federal and not state law.

- a liberal who is a gun owner.

The GOP wants the fear, unrest and craziness. It is how they drive their agenda.

The problem is that 35% of boys from 18-30 are sexless virgins and rising rapidly. A society full of angry frustrated young men will burn it all down

Is this correct? Banning abortion isn’t going to get them more sex.

Excellent, I want to take that course too. In case a gun goes flying I can disarm it or shoot the criminal myself.
