Watching the Cleveland Park boomers flip out over redistricting — and then say that an 11th hour retooling that caters to their complaints by ignoring the input of the rest of the Ward gathered through a months-long transparent process is somehow “democracy is action” is quite rich. It’s also extremely on brand for CP.
For Mendelson et al to give into these antics is blatant electioneering and bastardized a process that is supposed to reapportion districts without regard for political purposes or with certain commissioners in mind. Multiple SMDs don’t comply with the population requirements of redistricting, and the map doesn’t even attempt to hide its purpose: to consolidate power centering around Cleveland Park. |
Who’s flipping out exactly? I see this thread and there are people like you completely beside themselves that a compromise is being struck. Sorry that you don’t understand politics. And yes, you do need to chill out because you sound ridiculous. |
The compromise is the map created by Councilmember Silverman. The map offered by Mendelson is both illegal and makes no sense. |
An ally of yours proposed a “compromise” without any buy-in from the stakeholders. Doesn’t sound like a process that would result in plausibly negotiated outcome. |
| NP: What is this really about? What are the issues that some in CP feel like they wouldn't be able to get their way on if they were put in one ANC versus another? |
It started with Cheh working through a process many considered rigged where the outcome was designed to limit representation of SF homeowners. The people who politically benefit and their ideological comrades are now crying foul that those who would have had their representation dimished have been successfully able to restore some of it through a compromise. This is how politics works and it people don’t understand it and it makes them upset. |
But what are the actual issues this affects? |
It’s about representation on ANCs. The “issues” are those of relevance to ANCs. |
