When we were coming in for our son's game this weekend, the 20-something 5th grade CYA coach was being very nasty talking to his team after the game. Even my oblivious teenager commented on it. Poor kids looked like their dogs just died. It's not right to talk to 9/10 year olds like that. |
Well at CYA some of the refs are on the board and the description of of one of the problem refs was also a board member. There’s an Ethiopian guy who had a couple of teams who were contenders one season. I remember him having an issue with some guy and after that he had the same guy, who was a board member following him to all his games, even though they were in different divisions, doing everything he could to make this guy lose. Normally, I wouldn’t believe something like this, but I know some of the players involved and I kept hearing the same type of experiences from different people. |
| That's not really a great example. We don't know that the "issue" was the Ethiopian guy had. The Ethiopian guy might have totally lost his temper and the board might have wanted to keep an eye on his behavior for the rest of the season. |
It doesn’t matter if a coach loses his temper. The players on his team shouldn’t have to suffer for a mistake a coach made earlier in the year. I understand they may not have wanted the guys team to win, but to me it’s just unacceptable for board members and refs to cheat a team, especially when the players children. |
My kid didn't make that team! Dodged a bullet! |
How did the board member following the coach around to watch his game cheat the team? Are you saying the board member signed up to ref all this coaches games and then called the games to cheat his team? |
That’s basically what happened, but they didn’t send the board member to ref the games until playoffs. Even still, I think two of the guys teams were so dominant they still won the championship. This guy was coaching 3 teams in 3 different divisions and by the way the games were being called, it was obvious that they were being cheated. I you like the people at CYA, good for you. It’s just not for everyone. |
| It’s just really hard to imagine a racist conspiracy against a coach in 2019. |
Oh, you definitely did based on what we saw. |
That was just one example, but when you keep hearing different stories related to nepotism coming from the same sources over long periods of time, I tend to believe something is probably there. Again, if you are happy with CYA, stay there. |
|
Are there any other local AAU organizations with reputations for being racist being talked about on dcum? I’m sure there are some around.
Why am I only reading about this when it comes to CYA? |
|
So the gist of the last 17 pages: CYA has bad coaches and is run by a bunch of racists, and picks their teams based on criteria other than basketball skill.
|
most AAU teams I have seen around here are run by black guys, so not so much with the racism. |
To be fair, just the travel 5th grade boys D1 coach and the travel 7th grade boys D1 coach have been discussed. the other coaches might be fine. |
Is that the case over at CYA? Or are they too racist to have black guys running anything over there? |
