Is it time to have the difficult conversation about masks and MCPS?

Agree but it impinges on the Freedom of Trumpublicans (who are paid posters that don't live in MoCo).

The people complaining are then unofficial trumpers as they live in MoCo and pretend to be liberals who care about others.

I'm pretty sure they're paid to post about issues that cause frustration and strife by GOP backed PACs and don't live anywhere near Montgomery county.

None of those people are smart enough to leverage their crazy for money. They hate for free.

This. I can’t help but wonder if the OP is one of the Margery Smelkinson groupies who are essentially no-nothing Trumpers who use her science background as a cloak for the GOP anti mask / anti vaccine / anti any sensible precaution against the spread of covid.

Schools without masks are closing all over the south. Entire districts have closed schools in Texas and Florida (both states who are anti masks in school) due to the spread of covid. MCPS has remained open and yes, while not perfect, has managed to navigate the first two months fairly well.

Masks are literally not a big deal but these anti maskers are more invested in cultish politics than the safety of our kids and keeping schools safe and open.

Come on, OP is probably smelkinson herself. They are a ridiculous group of people who think they are smarter than they actually are and hide behind their educational titles in order to get others to follow their ridiculous narratives. They’d love you to believe students in MoCo are killing themselves on an hourly basis, all learned absolutely nothing last year, are miserable in masks, and will never recover from last year. They are the worst kind of people pretending to be the best. Luckily, the majority of MoCo residents aren’t as stupid as they wish we were and see them from what they truly are. “Everyone’s laughing at us…” no, Margery. Everyone is laughing at you and your cronies though.

But at least Kara mcnulty finally has some “friends.”

I support wearing masks but am firmly in the anti-bullying camp, so the people who are making these disparaging comments about Margery and Kara, neither of whom I even know, actually turn me off and seem more Trumpian than those 2 individuals do.

How is it bullying when they’ve done the things they’ve done? They’ve gone out and bullied parents for having different views. Anyone who doesn’t think exactly like they do is an enemy. No one cares if you’re turned off because you having been paying attention.

Hi Kara, how does it feel after you’ve bullied groups of people for over a year?

Not wrapped in bubble wrap and sprayed down with Lysol every hour like some would like. Or staying home in fear of breathing other kids germs.

Oh please, they are having a normal childhood and they will be fine. You want to get your kids sick, you go for it but not everyone feels the same way as you nor want to be around your sick kids. Your sick kids could kill someone else. You think it will be normal for a child to have to live without a parent as that child brought home covid and the parent died from covid. 700K+ people just in the US alone have died of covid. Think of all those parents, grandparents and other relatives that have died. That is far more harmful on kids than your worry of a normal childhood because we took away normal to them.

If people like you were more responsible about it, some of us would be more comfortable being around you and your kids. If people are avoiding you, look at why.

Very few people would argue kids have been having a normal childhood.

The lowest risk group, yet the most significantly impacted by Covid policy.

Beyond masking, what is different for most kids? Only 3k are in virtual school this year. And, define normal? This is their normal. The issue is the parents, not kids.

For one, they haven’t seen their grandparents, aunts, uncles or cousins in nearly two years because of the mask mandate on airplanes. (Yes, we’re still trying to work on masks, but it’s tough for some kids with ASD. And I know there are exception policies on some airlines, but the flight crew can still decide at the last minute to boot you from the flight even if you’ve gone through the procedure.)

They missed a year of their special education program, and months of speech and occupational therapy.

What is daycare like the rest of the time? I have no idea- I’ve never seen the inside of it. They’re still not letting parents in for anything.

And then there’s the quarantines, kicking kids out for 2 weeks at a time. That certainly never happened to me when I was a kid. I didn’t even have to miss two weeks of class when I had the flu.

And the most amazing part of this is, your kid is more adaptable than you are. The adults are the problem. An entire fourth grade echoed this to us. I’m sure the sentiment is universal. Get a grip.

You really can’t just admit that what the PP described should not be the norm and is really sad and unfortunate for a lot of kids and families? I think maybe you’re the one who needs to get a grip.

I’m just saying kids need to be exposed to dirt and germs. If we protect them too much they will grow up with weak immune systems. I’m sure they are still having nice childhoods and adapting to masks. I see the kids in the playground and walking to school and even on planes. Most seem fine wearing the masks. I’m just saying we may be doing them a disservice by being too sanitized and too afraid of exposing them to other people and germs etc.

The lowest risk group, yet the most significantly impacted by Covid policy.

Lol. Surely you must have felt the irony as you were writing that. That post is the most blatant example of the pot calling the kettle black that I've seen all year.

I’m just saying we may be doing our kids a disservice by protecting them from the real world too much. Living in such a sanitized world with no exposure to germs will affect developing a strong immune system. I’m sure the kids are fine with masks and have adjusted to the new normal. But all this sanitizing and avoiding exposure to others could backfire.

Ooh new twist on the Russian bot invasion

Everyone knows Koch-supported astroturfers actively post here. That's just a given.

What an inflated sense of self-importance. I've been called a bot and an astroturfer on this site.

Let me promise you something: nobody cares enough about you, or the DCUM messageboards, to spend ANY money paying somebody to post. Get over yourself. You're not important, at all

Completely agree! Especially how this one poster plays with Margery’s last name is anti-Semitic. But wait a few minutes and this poster is going to come back and say that she is Jewish and can say whatever.

Not the poster youre referring to, but as Jewish woman, its hardly anti-Semitic to call out a woman's actions who have nothing to do with religion. Are you really this stupid? Smelkinson has bizarre views and wants you all to agree with her bc she's a scientist in education. I know plenty of people at the NIH who do not agree with her.

Just the fact that you called an internet stranger stupid gives you away as that vile poster who keeps twisting Margery’s last name. I guess the fact that she wanted her four elementary school aged kids in actual school is bizarre to you but it’s not bizarre to the rest of world. What have you done to get the kids back to school? Oh, wait you stopped the spread by using Instacart.

I agree. I'm in a lot of groups that have overlap, and they post in them. I always get uncomfortable on DCUM when people start smearing them, especially Margery. To be honest, sometimes it feels pretty anti-Semitic too

But we should let this anonymous message board be anonymous. Or, if you are going to put one of these people (who are not paid, btw. These are parent volunteers) on blast, sign the post with your real name.

They have the guts to go out in public and put their name and face behind their opinion Have the courage to do the same

Hi, Margery. How ya doin between desperately calling any news outlet that will listen to you? I have better things to do than make fun of your last name. Sorry that many people despise you and resort to that. I haven't spread false facts like the Doc has. Really nice try though. I applaud you.

I was disappointed MCPS didnt lift mask guidelines at least in secondary schools. and his reaction was: "are you nuts? That was totally the right call. With over a thousand kids stuffed into small spaces, masks are a necessity". I guess masks are not stifling his development.

Agree but it impinges on the Freedom of Trumpublicans (who are paid posters that don't live in MoCo).

The people complaining are then unofficial trumpers as they live in MoCo and pretend to be liberals who care about others.

Good one. Are you a member of her cult? At the NIH, we are just waiting for her to get fired. Sorry your leader isn't as competent as you think. Her views are definitely bizarre to the community that can actually think for themselves. I'm sure she'll be glad she has a cheerleader though. Yikes.
