Is it time to have the difficult conversation about masks and MCPS?

No, it is not. Have a nice day.

I don’t think it’s time to talk about masks because people are just not ready. I think once the mask mandate for the overall county is gone, people will take a few months to get used to it. I am hoping by spring they will start to let go of some of this anxiety and then our kids can unmask in schools provided MSDe agrees.

Cdc recommends masking at school.

Same. And even if the state lifts its mandate, Montgomery County is so conservative about the mask issue.

And? The CDC recommends a lot of things that we don't follow. Have you ever eaten raw cookie dough? Ordered a hamburger cooked medium? Let a dog lick your kid's face?

MCPS and MDH certainly don't need to wait for CDC.

I suppose choice is good, but man, I hope masks during cold and flu season are here to stay!

Teacher here… the students care way less about masks than psycho parents. Yes, first graders are more mature and respectful than people tasked with being in charge of your kids mental health.

You might get your wish this winter, but prepare yourself for next year. Masks aren't going to stay.

Exactlly this. The Reeseman, Smelkinson crew are going bananas because for once their lives have been inconvenienced. It's not always about you.

Agree. I also don’t think they’ll drop them in the middle of cold and flu season, even if the intent is to prevent the spread of covid.

I’m so exhausted by them. I think they felt relevant for once in their lives by getting bylines in forced op-Ed’s and somehow think they are important.

No, I don't eat raw cookie dough or meat and no, we don't have a dog.

Masking is common sense. I guess many are lacking that.

https://corporate.dukehealth.org/news/data-finds-universal-masking-limits-school-transmission-covid-19-despite-delta-variant

“The findings of this study are extremely encouraging for the health and safety of students and staff attending schools where universal masking is in place,” said Kanecia Zimmerman, MD, MPH, co-chair of the ABC Science Collaborative. “The Delta variant is more transmissible than previous ancestral variants, but transmission in schools can continue to be low with vaccination among those who are eligible, strict adherence to masking, and avoidance of pandemic fatigue.”

Parent here, and my experience is the same. I hate wearing a mask. My kids don't really mind at all, and often walk all the way home before they realize they are still wearing a mask. I was prepared to go to the mat on this because I thought kids would hate it, but it's been no big deal.

This has nothing to do with mental health. It has to do with the parents needs and wishes. They are the same parents you call when the kids don't do their work or you are concerned and they ignore your calls and emails. These are the same parents who don't think twice about sending their sick kids in as they cannot be bothered staying home with them. These are the same parents who can afford to, but choose not to send in school supplies, snacks, coats and think its your responsibility (and can afford it, not talking about those financially struggling). These are the same parents who should not even be having kids.
