Baldwin, Whitmer, and Duckworth have the strongest midwestern appeal. Looks like Duckworth is the only one left on the shortlist.

I like all three. I think that white women feel sidelined again. HC was an elitist. He should pick Duckworth because she is a fighter and really served this country.

I'm a Duckworth fan, but also really like Bass and Demings. Both were on ABC This Week a few days ago, and both are personable and have gravitas at the same time:

It's gonna be Harris.

The most commonly listed swing/purple states are Colorado(9), Florida (29), Iowa (6), Michigan (16), Minnesota (10), Nevada (6), New Hampshire (4), North Carolina (15), Ohio (18), Pennsylvania (20), Virginia (13) and Wisconsin (10).

There are 538 electoral college votes and a candidate needs 270 to win. There are roughly 170 votes that typically lean Democratic and about 170 votes that typically lean Republican. So this middle 1/3 is extremely critical. All of the swing states are important, not just the midwest. It is true that Trump won by essentially swinging Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Only 46 electoral college votes that had been polling for Clinton, actually voted for Trump and put him over. But any combination of these 10-12 states that leads to a majority could easily swing the election. Right now, almost all of these states are leaning blue in polling.

However, another factor this time is that there are several states that typically lean Republican that are considered to be in play this year like Arizona and Texas. That is weakening the traditional reliable red states and makes the swing states even more critical for Trump.

Harris has too much baggage with the Willie Brown stuff and her prior law and order actions and comments. Plus her new face is frightening. Duckworth has no real support or appeal. Never heard of Bass until today. Going out on a limb and saying Demings will get it, but not sure if she will be able to garner much support or enthusiasm, but we'll see I guess. I still think the DNC may pull Joe in the next six weeks and put up someone with a higher profile and popularity, who isn't suspected as being mentally or physically challenged. So no Hillary, but maybe Michelle O or Cuomo.

Jesus christ. Two things, first of all- noone cares about Willie Brown, other than right-wing hacks. Secondly -Cuomo is awful.

Tell me more about Baldwin. I did google her but I'm curious what others think about her as she wasn't on my radar.

A progressive version of Klobuchar, who does well in red and purple territory. Would make history as first LGBT+ person on ticket. Some pundits early on said the race could come down to WI, but she does not seem to be on the short list.

Baldwin is fantastic. She was my top pick and would bring strong idealogical diversity to the ticket. It is a shame that she isn’t on the shortlist.

Yeah, Baldwin and Whitmer were my top picks initially. Bummed they both seem to be out of contention.

Baldwin is smart and well liked in her state and by both Democrats and Republicans. Too bad she was probably taken off the list because she is white. She would be very Presidential.

I wish Klobucher had stayed in the mix. She was my fave for backing up Biden and she has more name recognition then most of the others in consideration.

IF Biden selects a non-AA running mate, I think he could mitigate disappointment by releasing his AA cabinet (Rice and Harris...) and SC picks (Kruger) at the same time. Black voters aren't voting for VP in particular, they're voting for a whole administration.

Yep, Duckworth. And her patriotism should never be in question. It's a bad look.

I would put Warren in a key position where she could leverage action. Secretary of State is for foreign affairs, and I want her focused on the US -- Secretary of the Treasury would be amazing. Let's get some real teeth into the finances.

Whitmer is still on short list - Baldwin is a Lesbian and Joe is not risking that. My guess is Whitmer or Duckworth takes it.
