There are very few antivirals that work on respiratory viruses like flu, coronavirus, rhinovirus, adenovirus. Tamiflu survives because it's the only one, despite some potentially large side effects and the fact *it barely works at all* (reduces course of disease by ~10% / 12 hours).

What's needed is a vaccine. And that will take time.

Is there a higher mortality rate among covid cases than flu in children specifically?

I keep reading that kids only get mild symptoms but I dont think its always mild for every child.

I think the best guess is that it is lower. So far no child under ten has died from coronavirus.

I'm not sure I understand your problem. They were more than just "exposed." They were tested later and they were positive. That's a good use of testing resources.

The thing is, people around here with symptoms who have tested negative for flu have had trouble getting tested or getting their results quickly. One is at a hospital in Arlington in critical condition awaiting results that won't come til Monday according to his poor wife. How the hell did the NBA dude get test results so fast, and he's showing no symptoms?

You meant that some people don’t comply with recommendation to self-quarantine. Quarantine does reduce spread of infection in a community.

The second and latest death in New Jersey is a woman in her fifties. No mention of particular vulnerabilities. And I don't think New Jersey is at the stage of not having enough ventilators of ICU beds for everyone.
