There’s evidence that Tamiflu reduces the death rate for severe flu. And there’s also a new flu med that can be taken prophylactically to reduce the risk of infection. |
The last article in this list is from conservative sources only, and someone in one of these friends found the original Chinese article and this is not what it said. |

My 70yo in-laws still seem entirely unconcerned about all this, except not being able to buy toilet paper and other goods. Apparently this a running theme with older republicans....

Old Republicans hate science. Why would that change now? |
My “FOX news only” parents got serious yesterday. Not sure if it was the trump outings or maybe when Newt wrote from quarantine (in Italy). |
Younger Republicans too. Check out #coronakatie on Twitter. |
Probably not, since there is not treatment. But it does concern me that the largest hospital nearest me (where we would go should things become critical), doesn’t seem to have the capability to get rapid test results and/or to communicate to the family in a reassuring way that they are treating the patient as if he has it and are treating him aggressively, as they would (I hope) any younger person in critical condition with pneumonia. I hate this administration. They have f***ed this up beyond belief. |
It's easy to snap out at current politicians when feeling frustrated and angry. But I don't think any other politician would have had a different impact. Look at Europe. They all also waited before making major actions. |
Are you for real? |
Bwahahahaha. You really don't think that political leadership matters? Both in the long and the short term, if we had a president who understood epidemics we would have a CDC pandemic team in place, we would have authorized the CDC to use the WHO test, we would have incentivized labs and private manufacturers to ramp up production of tests, masks, and other essential medical equipment, we would have not made crazy announcements to upset the stock market. We would not have politicized the pandemic and we would not have to hear idiotic statements about transcripts and pleas to avoid testing to keep numbers artificially low. Elections matter. |
Please share how to get my 70s parents (one with lung cancer) serious. They're leaving the house, walking around with cotton gloves as their shield, acting like this is blown out of proportion. one is former healthcare, so ?. It may take me screaming at them. |
Yes, here's that point again about what the Xinhua article really said:
People can even plug the article into Chrome translate for themselves. |
The government should have set up production in this country back in December to start making masks for everyone, test kids, hospital supplies, hand sanitizer etc. This we knew was coming. Anyone who was watching China back in December knew this was coming. The US failed! |
Then they weren't watching Tucker Carlson who is pretty much the only news personality right or left who has been sounding the alarm since the week of January 20. |
