Whitmer! |
See above exchange, not on any recent short lists. |
Yes. Whitmer has moved from the active "A list" to the backup "B list". She's not completely off the table, but she's no longer in the national focus like she was when her state was high up on the pandemic response and then the public reaction to her executive orders. Over the next 2-4 weeks, the news cycle will play a big part in the decision process as Biden's team looks for the candidates who are polling strongly especially in the swing states. |

We knew five Black women were on the list, so who dropped off? Bottoms? Leaving Harris, Rice, Bass, Demings? Or Demings dropped off due to association with police brutality? |
I believe Whitmer had landscapers on he no work list. Silly since here we saw the masks and social distancing in action. After watching the new new Joy Reid show on 7/20/20- Biden for Pres and Clinton as VP. Do they get along? IDK but if they don't there would be nice truth is in the middle with it being skewed 2/3 Biden and 1/3 Clinton. |
My guess is Bottoms. Although Biden has a great relationship with her, she is the least experienced on this list (Demings right behind her) and I read there was something problematic about her relationship with her predecessor and mentor, who was involved in a pay-to-play scandal. It's also been pointed out it will be tough for governors and mayors to fulfill their obligations to their day jobs during the pandemic and effectively campaign at the same time. |
No abrams? |
Honestly, there are no good options for VP. They're all problematic for one reason or another and don't have wide spread appeal or the ability to generate support. Especially problematic when everyone believes that Joe is an empty suit and the VP will eventually become P. Too much time fighting Repubs the past three years and not enough focus on developing a good ticket. |
She wasn't on the long list or short list due to lack of experience. |
I think Bass or Duckworth would be competent and have a good amount of appeal. Bass would need a big introduction, but she's so personable, clear, calm, and sharp. |

I do worry Biden has backed himself into a corner. Warren and Rice are the best qualified on the list, but would help drive GOP turnout. Don't think there's a chance either will be selected, though this vetting is useful should they be appointed to Cabinet positions. Harris also has high negatives, but again vetting useful for potential AG appointment. Bottoms and Demings do not meet the readiness bar. So I keep coming back to Lujan Grisham, Duckworth, and Bass as the most reasonable choices. I think anyone of them, would be good, if unexciting. But a historic pick in any case, and Duckworth has the potential to be exciting. She's good with a zinger. |
I guess he’s announcing around August 1st, so we don’t have terribly long to wait. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/07/21/joe-biden-vice-presidential-pick-what-you-need-know-decision/5472942002/
I don’t think anyone mentioned Masto at any point on this thread. This article says she was in the top 3 at one point but pulled herself from consideration. |
She was discussed briefly maybe 10 pages or so back, but withdrew not long after her name was first floated. |
Hopefully it's Harris. |
