Elon Musk buys $3 billion stake (9.2%) in Twitter and is now the platform's largest shareholder

Reporter wasn't at all wrong - he was just underprepared. The platform has definitely gotten worse since Elon took it over.

Elon, being the bad-faith actor that he is, saw that and took advantage of it to bully and gaslight. I blame the reporter for not being prepared, but none of this takes away from the dumpster fire that is Twitter.

+1 It was widely reported that use of the n-word on Twitter increased like 500% immediately after Eon’s takeover. There are probably links referencing that in this very thread going back to that time.

Also, the verified blue checks are going away, which means every valid source of informatation on the platform can be easily spoofed, thus undermining the credibility of the platform entirely. NPR has bailed on Twitter as of today, and I suspect other journalists and networks will shortly.

It will take a decade for another platform to emerge as useful as Twitter has been, which is why Musk was given money to buy it and destroy it.

JESUS. I thought the link was broken but I clicked reply to see what the address was.

I can’t believe that there are still fan bois for Musk. He’s a tool and a tool for oligarchy.

You would think if a reporter dropped in announced hoping for an interview, he would be prepared if one was actually granted, as it was in this case. So, gaslit doesn't seem an appropriate way to describe what happened to the reported. More like he was unprepared.

I can only surmise that the reporter thought there was no chance Musk would agree to an interview on the spot.

Elon labeled NPR as state media even though its content is not controlled by the government and the amount of funding it receives is about 2% of its total budget. Now NPR is leaving.

Even official US Government accounts on Twitter have lost their blue checkmarks. Even as disgusting accounts like the one above have been getting them.

God bless Elon. He is a hero and a wonderful human being.

Freedom of expression matters.

The gaslighting part was where Elon was very aggressively trying to suggest that none of what the reporter claimed was true.

The PP who said that twitter was just too useful and too helpful is correct.

The only people applauding this are the kind of low information bigots who are mad that calling people bigoted names IRL comes with consequences.

Everyone knows this, and I'm sure Elon knows it as well.

But the sane and sensible thing that a normal CEO would have done would have been to talk about what he's doing to take responsibility and fix the problem.

But this is Elon we're talking about, who wants to be the trolling edge lord, who behaves anything but sane and sensible.

Interesting. The account of the person you tweeted has been suspended.

The reporter was not only unprepared, but he was unable to cite even one instance of hate that he claims he has seen. If it is so prevalent, you would think he would be able to cite at least one.

According to NPR, federal funding is "essential."

Getting a tiny piece of federal funding doesn’t make them state media, because the state doesn’t determine content. Also, Elon was too dumb to label VOA state media, when they are literally state media.
