DA vs ECNL vs everything else

It’s not like it’s mandatory. All of my kids did the International ODP Trips, and it was a great experience for them. If someone can’t afford it or thinks it’s a waste of money, don’t send your kids. Simple.

OK. But they present it as an honor for top players and that is not what it is. It is only for the top kids that can afford it which not the same as the best players.

Wow. They may just get the top prize with that.

Looking down your noses I see. Pretty hateful. I think it’s neat that they are taking the top 40 in the program and taking them somewhere memorable to train. Us Youth Futsal is always going all over the place with its top players. Canada, Columbia, and so on.

Pretty hateful? Ha! You have to be kidding me.

Maybe you should look at is as an opportunity presented for an experience, and not as a negative commentary. Would you expect the club to fund it?

First of all ODP isn't a one off thing and there was a true national development component to the ODP before the DA came into being.

Even today, it is an actual program where you train throughout the season and you play with your state and regional teams.

ECNL national ID whatever it is is nothing more than an all star team.

They can do whatever they want and call it what they want. Nice opportunity for the kids that can afford it. I think it cuts out some because of the distance and I am sure they could care less what I think.

When a kid turns down an opportunity for whatever reason, they move on to the next one and so on.

Exactly! Most clubs are offering such experiences, like VDA took its players to Italy, and yet people on this board want to act like sideline seagull critics. They just fly in, crap on everything and fly out.

And don’t be fooled. Those international trips of ODP were not open to all to attend. It was presented as an honor. It’s all the same soup; different bowl as far as that goes. It’s a nice cultural experience, but none of it is the same as a YNT going overseas.

I think the Boys ECNL program is adding depth by creating such opportunities.

Let the haters just sit on these boards and whine like a bunch of grumpy old men, pontificating about the days of old and how they think soccer should be, instead of getting productive and involved with what’s going on right now.

Funny. You are the only one saying anything about hate.

As for me, I've been involved in soccer for 40 years as a player, a referee, a coach, an administrator, and most importantly as a parent, and I am still active to this day and probably will be for another 10 to 20 years.

So please, enlighten me as to what more I can do to get involved with what's going on right now.

You can quit dumping on the opportunity these 40 boys are going to get. The experience will stick with them. It’s hateful to make fun of this trip, and call it ridiculous. Or spiteful if you prefer.

Being a coach, player and referee does not mean you are above reproach.

Oh please! Just because some kids are able to have the opportunity to travel overseas - for soccer or otherwise - doesn't make it any less of an opportunity. We (as a nation) send kids for foreign exchange programs, parents take their kids all over the globe for personal travel, to visit family, some even spend summers in Brazil to improve their soccer skills. If you can't afford it, that's fine, but that doesn't make it a crime for the families that can.

And no, I don't have a son to send. But I can be a big enough of an adult to appreciate the opportunity for those families that do and can.
