The White Lotus season 2

Or does he just hate his kids

Either or both. Just more ambiguity or open to your personal interpretation

I don’t think Greg will be the connection because I don’t think that character is interesting or charismatic enough to make people want to watch again. He only came along this season because of Tanya.

I like the idea of Portia coming back because she’s not rich herself, so I think watching her navigate being privileged by proxy would be interesting. Also, if the theme is religion/spirituality, I really like the idea of having the through line be the Gen Z characters because I’m really curious how they would think about those things.

I hope it’s some kind of super fancy spiritual retreat/spa in Southeast Asia. I think this would enable them to return to a theme from season one (how these places exploit local cultureand people for their rich patrons) that I’d like to see more of.

Greg will definitely be the connection. Mike White confirmed the next season will be out death and religion (Greg still has terminal cancer). Also, some rumors have been floating around that they've started filming WL3 in Japan. It just makes sense

Will Sharpe (actor who played Ethan) is half Japanese. Not assuming that would be the connection, but we previously watched him in Giri/Haji where he spoke Japanese in some scenes. I would be interested to see the storyline of the two couples and their resentments and shared dynamics continue. However, I doubt much of anything has been determined just yet and I would also love to see a new cast and storyline play out.

Great ending. I thought the piano man was going to take out Mia. But I loved how it ended.

My take away was that Ethan and Harper were shown that they are not so unlike Cameron and Daphne. They both cheated but look how happy they were in the Airport waiting for their flight. It took both people in the elation ship cheating so that they could find happiness in their relationship.

I agree. I also think it shows stages of the marriages. Cam and Daphne have kids, are further along with more stress in their life. Ethan and Harper are very idealist at the outset of the vacation. By the end, they cheat too...and weirdly brought them closer. "What you almost lose makes you appreciate it more' type logic. But, I also think it's Harper and Ethan's transition into the life of the ultra wealthy. They are doing things they never would have done before the $ came along and they got jaded. Ethan might end up like Cam. He seemed to get a lot of power from cheating with Daphne and he appeared to really like that feeling. Harper is happy to have him back and loving again...and ripe to end up like Daphne---married to a rich guy she loves, but has to make sacrifices/excuses for..and she might do things to 'not feel like a victim' too going forward.

I don't think they'll en up like C/D level cheaters. This was more a weird vacation slap in the face to wake them up again as opposed to their new norm. Neither of them seem like people that want casual sex for fun (like cam) or huge flirts loving the chase etc. Maybe they'll each do it again in life, but it won't be their regular thing

Ethan was a bigger mark than Albie.

Harper played him like a fiddle with psychological manipulation to get what she wanted — her filthy rich weirdo husband wrapped around her finger and impregnating her.

Cameron and his wife orbited him to corrupt him and bring them all closer, so when they get back Ethan will wire a boatload of money to Cam to “manage”. Asset management is just a scam to milk to money for management fees forever.

Nobody likes Ethan. People just want his money, even the snarky conniving lawyer he’s married to.

This was not in the show at all and I think you should unpack with a therapist why you see this series through such a misogynistic lens.

Hope she did that while in vacay

I liked Ethan. He seemed pretty genuine for a rich dude. But I do wish he would crack a joke or even a smile Occasionally.

Albie and Portia are both naive suckers and I’m glad Mike White drove that point home at the end so we don’t have to rehash the conversation about how deluded and naive Portia’s worldview is relative to Jack’s.

Another point about Jack is that in this whole thread no one mentions he’s a victim when he clearly is either a victim of a predatory older, privileged man or a victim of child abuse or both. A lot of untold demons in his closet that he’s trying to drink away.

It’s funny that the only true friendship in the show is between Lucia and the piano player. Cameron and Daphne seem like they actually like each other but their friendship is too twisted.

The “you f your uncle?!” and Tanya telling the captain the gays were trying to kill her in vain were hilariously cringe.

Great ending to a great season. This is the best show of the past 10-15 years.

Who looked like him? He was gross and a drunk! No thank you!

Now we’re going to act like this guy isn’t attractive? He looks like a young, more athletic Damon Albarn. No one who looks like Portia is going to pull someone who looks like a 1990s Calvin Klein model in the real world. Please.

Uh no, he was not attractive to me at all.

You kidding? Look at him outside of his lotus personality?

Yes, but here is Haley Lou Richardson outside of White Lotus. They were both intentionally playing/styled to look messier, less together, poorer, etc. You know... acting.

Yeah, it was. She was so flustered. There were a million other choices she could have made, from tying the rope to the banister to finding a ladder but, I mean, as a woman her size (though a bit younger) you do start to feel a bit less agile as the years go by. Jumping off of a boat and then climbing into another isn't an easy feat.

It’s just too sad she doesn’t know boats have doors and layers and a low deck in the back. she didn’t even hit her head on the way down.

Yeah. I thought maybe she’d pop up because her head didn’t hit the boat. I didn’t want her to die

She did hit her head. There was a distinct clunking sound. That’s why she drowned—she was unconscious.

In the real-time incident there was a clunk noise, later in the show it restored that and no noise.

+1 Whereas Daphne and Cameron won't last. Mainly because he's a grade A narcissist who loves no-one but himself, including "his" kids.

No don’t you see - Daphne is the aggressor. Cam reacts to what she provokes, not the other way around. Don’t you see how she played Harper and Ethan? That’s the point of Daphne: she’s not a ditz; she’s a female psychopath. Psychopaths aren’t all out for violence. In her case it’s all fun and games. She’s says in the first episode she loves Dateline. She loves drama. Daphne sees the uptight couple and commences a little game called Let’s see how we can get this puppet to dance. She feels powerful by getting people to do things and make it seem like she’s innocent and it was their idea. When Harper asks Daphne if she thinks Cam cheats, she says you need to do whatever you need to do to feel better, you should get yourself a trainer. The idea of cheating never occurred to Harper before, and before you know it, she’s cheating!

Same dang thing with Ethan. Daphne knows her actions trigger Cam to cheat. She Does Not Care. She uses that to justify her bad behavior. “See, if Cam wasn’t such a bad guy, I wouldn’t have to do these things to survive in the relationship and not feel like a victim.” Go back and look - Daphne is the instigator of all the cheating. She gives Ethan the same advice, you do what you gotta do to level the score. Cam, Harper, Ethan, they all think in varying ways that they chose to behave this way. But they were manipulated into behaving this way.

At the end, Daphne’s like this is just another Saturday for me. It is immaterial that Harper and Ethan grew closer because of Daphne’s actions (unless of course it was to inspire Ethan to invest more with Cameron because he had a great trip, which in turn benefits her). Her main motivation is to drum up drama and skillfully manipulate people without them even realizing it was her. That is her superpower.

You didn’t hear the thud? We did.

I agree there was a thud although you don’t see it. But I was also waiting for her to open her eyes and struggle back to the surface. But I liked that ending for her- like Mike white said, she figures it out and fights her way out, then dies in a dumb way from her own incompetence (still asking about Greg’s affair). It seemed to work well with her character

+1 many of us thought she was the character with plot armor but there was really nowhere for her character to go. This ending was fitting. I agree Greg will be the connector next season, maybe he's married to a hot young thing for wife 5 and he becomes paranoid she's trying to off him.

Or the riches don't satisfy him the way he anticipated, especially if he has a recurrence and learns death is imminent after all.

His conscience must eat at him. He felt bad enough to ensure she had one final magical day, such a striking decision vs. simply using Quentin's mafia friends to arrange a sudden accident to befall her without all the wining and dining. Many of us thought they gays were going to hustle her/ steal her money but this strange approach was clearly orchestrated by Greg.

This is fanfic, not at all rooted in the source material. A wife can’t “provoke” cheating by leaving for a night. And she tried to get him to come but he refused because he wanted to… waterski.
