He is your hero as long as Russia doesn't aim their missiles towards the US.. Or as long as they don't target your area with the massive cyber attacks to make it uninhabitable for a while. Russia doesn’t get the rusted doors of their silos open before we wipe them off the map

Our silos are rusted. Our missiles are slow, inaccurate and easily shot down. Russia has highly maneuverable hypersonic nuclear missiles against which we have no defense. https://www.military.com/equipment/weapons/why-russias-hypersonic-missiles-cant-be-seen-radar.html

For the billionth time poster. Russia has no hypersonics. None. Not a one. None are operational Our nukes are the most accurate in the world by far. Our nukes are at least 4 generations ahead of Russia today.
In any event you cannot get past our subs.

+1 I don’t know what alternate reality posters are living in. We outspend every other country by billions.
Where do you all think that defense budget is going? Finding articles drumming up fear to keep those sweet dollars flowing doesn’t change the fact.
I’m not saying we wouldn’t see damage. We see ( rightfully) even 1 detonation as unacceptable. Putin does not likely share that sentiment.
He is an irrational actor.

Our military spending goes to salaries. Russia and China have hypersonic missiles. We don’t. https://www.ft.com/content/7d566088-7d25-4fde-9b02-311f86eb845e

25% goes to salary. that’s not most and even if it was, we’re still outspending everyone else.

Russia and China have operational hypersonic missiles. Other countries are developing them. The U.S. is not. https://www.sandboxx.us/blog/here-are-all-hypersonic-weapons-russia-and-china-have-in-service/

That’s right. You didn’t read the article I posted. Russia and China have operational hypersonics. Try reading this article. https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/17/politics/john-hyten-china-hypersonic-weapons-test/index.html

Did read the article. They don't. China has some. Russia has none that are operational. The article is flat wrong. But again so what? Even if they did it does not change anything. All of our Boomers are out now. They can't be traced and 2-3 minutes before impact.

Look at the Russian military. Tanks are decades behind ours. they have antitank weapons we used in the 1970s. They have not used them much yet but their choppers are 1980s era. Their fighter jets could not compete with the F-14, 15 never mind the two or three generations in between. Despite this you would have us believe that they have a state of the art hypersonic nuke system? It makes no sense. This is a lot like the 1960 election where JFK kept saying there was a missile gap greatly favoring the USSR and that we were far behind We were not and in fact we were ahead but Nixon could not say that because the US did not want the USSR to know. Anyone paying attention would know that DDE would not leave the country exposed when he was President. The Russians are little better than a third world power. Except that they have nukes. Great for them. Use them and they die.

Markle was a strong and level headed leader, but we are here in part because of her. She prioritized Germany's economic supremacy while milking the US's policing presence in the world. Trump's admin called it right, it is time for Germany and NATO to wake the f up and do their part.

Umm…. Close. But not quite.
Trump was openly pondering the importance of NATO.
A second term and Trump would have killed it.

Additionally, his interests and those of Ukraine aren't entirely aligned with those of the U.S. So, one day, it wouldn't be at all surprising if he ended up acting in ways that aren't in the best interest of the U.S. Which is perfectly rational, but the heroic accolades might not hold up so well when that time comes to pass.

Oh Please.

STFU

He probably ignores his wife, yells at his kids, doesn't put the toilet seat down or put his dirty dishes in the dishwasher. So what?

In this instance, Zelensky has shown himself to be a true hero, just as Sully Sullenberger is a hero.

Zelensky has put himself in danger to protect others. He's leading in an impossible situation. He's kept his head when lesser men would panic. He's exactly the right man for the job he's facing. Who cares about anything else he does in the future. Right now he's a true hero deserving of admiration.

I'm cheering for him. But I'm also waiting for a Milkshake Duck reveal at some point.

Angela did a lot for Europe. But she dismantled Germany’s nuclear power plants, making Germany dependent on Russian gas. Now Germany seems to be all in on helping Ukraine. For those of us old enough to remember the oil shock of the early 1970s, Germany is in for a lot of trouble. Gerald Ford even floated the idea of going to war against Saudi Arabia in one interview.

No. You don't get to blame her for Putin's insanity.

Huh? How am I blaming Merkel for Putin’s insanity? I’m blaming her for surrendering Germany’s energy independence.

I don't read pp's comments as "blaming" her for this war. This is all on Putin.
But, she is correct in pointing out how Germany has come to rely on Russian oil which has "complicated" their position here.

At least some Russian troops don't think this is a good idea. Let's hope it doesn't send Putin into an uncontrollable rage.

For the love of all that is holy, what Putin claims about their hypersonic programs is not reality. All of these articles being linked claiming they have hypersonic missiles are based on what the Kremlin is trying to project to the world. Many of the claims have never been able to be independently verified.

So if you want to buy what he's selling hook, line, and sinker, go right ahead. But know you're buying into lies

Ron Brownstein reminds us:

Every House and Senate Republican except one in each chamber voted to exonerate Trump for his extortion campaign against Ukraine. Some of those who are now most demanding tougher steps vs. Russia, like [Marco Rubio] and [Lindsay Graham] were among Trump's loudest defenders.

If it isn’t true, why don’t we send massive drone army into Ukraine and flatten all Russian assets?

So Russia has hypersonic missiles that fly at 8 times the speed of sound. And the US doesn't have hypersonic weapons?

We for example have 400 nuclear-tipped LGM-30 Minuteman III ICBMs which fly at 23 times the speed of sound.

Frankly, I would die for Ukraine (I live in DC). So yes, I stand with Zelensky against insane bully monsters. They must go even if I die.

Great, I will buy you a one way ticket so that you could go die for Ukraine I am not willing to even lose a finger for them if it means that our country will be attacked and we have to live under the shadow of constant extermination threat. why do we care about this country so much more than other horrible places we had abandoned and condemned their residents to tortuous lives (hello, Afganistan?) Is this because you are more likely to die for European white people, because it's ok for brown people to suffer all over the world? You are all hypocrites.

DP. Are you asking why anyone in the US cares about Ukraine? We don't especially care about Ukraine. We care about Putin and his aggression.

Zelensky, whatever his imperfections, is doing a great job as a war president. He's not my hero, but I can admit that he's admirable. And if Putin starts launching nukes at DC, it won't be because Zelensky is charismatic. It will be because Putin is an insane idiot who went nuts during the pandemic.

He is dragging other countries into his war, he said he wants volunteers from other countries. Fine, but I am sorry, it's not OUR war. USA has no business going into a full blown war with a nuclear power to save another "democracy" that had its own basket of problems all these years and in fact, had a civil war type of situation in its eastern parts for a while now. This wasn't our business then and it's not our business now. We shouldn't go beyond sanctions and humanitarian aid for the citizens of Ukraine and trying to save innocent civilians from this situation. If we stick to this and don't send troops beyond civilian evacuation asistance, if we don't threaten any military action or cyber attacks, I think we'll be fine. I doubt Russians want their country flattened. Even if we have more power to flatten them first, they have enough to flatten some of our cities too, this isn't giving me warm fuzzies. There are 3 countries that would be totally idiotic for us to get into war with: Russia, China, North Korea. You cannot console yourself with the citizens of these countries trying to control their despots, we have to be more diplomatically savvy and avoid direct conflict. The end.

Who the f cares? If we engage into this type of warfare it will wipe out most of the world, nobody wins. How you are all getting fuzzies from our military prowess puzzles me. This isn't our war. And this isn't Iraq or Syria or any other country we could harmlessly fight on their land from afar. And even if there will be only 1-2 nuclear or other horrible weapon fire exchanges, it still can devastate large swaths for decades and it can kill millions of civilians.
