Looks like this healthcare law may be toast

I can't wait to see the fear and sorrow in the eyes of the shoppers at Tenleytown WF after this law gets overturned.

Only one of those "values voters" Republicans could take pleasure in other people's fear and sorrow. But, an intelligent person such as yourself should realize that WF shoppers have health insurance. This is not a big deal to them. But, maybe you can take pleasure in the fear of the people who work at WF.

What almost all of the fools gloating over the probably/possible demise of the Aff. Healthcare Act do not understand is that there was unquestioned, indisputable, unanimous agreement among all the Justices and all counsel yesterday that Congress absolutely has the right to mandate health insurance as a condition of receiving health care.

The argument was all about the timing of when it can be required, with the so-called "conservatives" saying you can't force people to buy when they're young & healthy and don't need health care, but you can force them to buy it at the "point of sale" as a condition to receiving health care.

IOW, when you show up sick or grievously injured you can be forced to buy insurance before you're treated, only you'll be doing it from a high risk pool at wildly inflated prices compared to what you'd have paid if you bought it earlier along w/ everyone else mandated to have insurance before you need it.

So the smart alecks are completely missing the economic and systemic point and their gloating "big brother" attacks on Obama are utterly misplaced because there is no question (per the Court yesterday & counsel) that it is Constitutional to require anyone who wants health care to have health insurance.

I doubt that 1/2 of 1% of the haters have a clue about that (the level of ignorance in this country about the mandate and the health care system as a whole is just staggering to see).

A 2700 page " heathcare " law passed by a commitee chair who couldn't understand it ... Signed by a President who smokes... Given the stamp of approval by surgeon general who is obese , accounted for by a treasury secretary who doesn't pay his taxes.... Funded by a country that is broke and has a net balance 15 trillion dollars less than the homeless dude on the corner. What's not to like?

republicans control the S. Court.

No big deal the republicans will be able to pass their health care plan.

GOP plan... Health insurance for catastrophic events only ( over 3 k. Pay for health care under 3 k the way you pay for food, auto repair. Cell phone , heat, ac , the plumber, or anything else. This will drive down costs as doctors get crap if they over charge customers. If you have a catastrophe without insurance your get care but assets are taken for the bill. If you are broke you get medicaid. If you are illegal you get care and deported plus your address is investigated for additional illegal occupants. Personal responsibilty brings down costs.

wow ... oversimplify to the point of absurdity much?

You don't know, clearly, that the Ryan plan would call for an even BIGGER "penalty" for the uninsured than the Affordable Health Care Act, because it has a $2,300 tax subsidy for those with insurance --- meaning that those who don't have health insurance pay nearly 4 times the "penalty" than they do under the Aff. Hlth Care Act.

I think you've been smoking something ...

Well, let's see. Conservatives originally backed a Health Care mandate. It was written up by the Heritage Foundation. It was backed by Newt Gingrich, and Trump wrote about it in his book. It was first put into practice by Republican candidate Mitt Romney. Lately (a year ago) Ryan proposed a plan where everyone gets a set benefit amount and they buy private insurance. That's smooth, because we cap what we pay but not what it costs. Didn't fly so well. Now they have a "new new" plan, which is to put Medicare/Medicaid people into the federal health plans, but do nothing new for anyone else, I guess leaving them to get sick and then go into the new and improved Medicaid after they get expensive illnesses.

I'm actually going to go out on a limb here and say that the Court won't overturn the law. So, let's wait for the ruling and see who is gloating then.

Though, I should also add that I actually don't like the Affordable Care Act. So, I'm kind of ambivalent about this whole thing.

What I don't understand is if people don't want people to be required to pay for private insurance and they don't want taxpayers to pay the medical bills of the uninsured, then who do they think will pay? The uninsured will ultimately just get bankruptcy protection if they can't afford the ridiculous hospital bill.

Yes. Rs often do things that seem contradictory to me. I read today that Rs support your employer being able to ask for your FB password. I thought Rs were all about freedom???

They don't like abortion but oppose sex ed and BC.
They want freedom of religion but hate islam.
They are pro fetus but not pro child.
They are pro "keep govt out of personal affairs" but don't want you to be able to lead a happy gay life and actually try to regulate vaginas.

It's insane....

Here's my Affordable Care Act: Require that all food grown, produced and sold in the US of A be completely free of artificial ingredients, including, but not limited to: preservatives, artificial colors and flavors, dough conditioners, artificial sweeteners, msg and ingredients, whether natural or not, containing msg. All junk food and processed food would disappear. Heart disease, diabetes, obesity, certain cancers would decrease significantly, lowering the demand for and cost of health care, cutting the cost of Medicare and Medicaid, and significantly reducing and perhaps eventually balancing the Federal budget.

I know everyone whose children have health insurance now because they can stay on their parents plan will be thrilled if the Supreme Court sinks Obamacare. Ditto the people counting the days until they can buy health insurance despite their preexisting condition. I'm pretty sure these people are not divided by party, and I'm also pretty sure a whole lot of them vote.

The Republican plan? I think they want sick people to roll over and die if they aren't smart enough to find a job that has health insurance. Fewer sick people, more money for the rest of us! Yea! More Republicans!

So basically, you want us to go back to the 1800s and grow our own food? Because without preservatives and processing, the only food that could be sold would be fresh produce and meat. And it would have to be grown locally. So if you live in the DC area, you'll be competing with 6 million people for whatever they grow within a few hundred miles.

Yeah, people won't die from heart disease. They'll starve.
