There have already been a few threads re the prior Maury PTA president in recent years. This isn't breaking news. If you do a search you can probably find them. |
Wow. Considering she moved her in-laws in with her, my guess is your take on her is off base. |
Hi there! Jewelyn here. I couldn’t afford a bigger house in Alexandria and needed space to take care of my in laws. Appreciate your concern! All kids in Alexandria deserve a great education and I still feel that way. It’s unfortunate we don’t have better decision making in Virginia to ensure the schools that most need the resources get them. Perhaps not assuming the worst of people is a better way to live life, particularly if you want to see meaningful change. ✌🏻 |
DP. Good for you for posting. I don't know any of the background here but I applaud you for standing up to a bully willing to mock you anonymously. |
Only a bully if you buy what Jewelyn is selling... |
This is one of the dumbest threads I have seen in a while. There is no correlation between the presence of an SRO and school shootings. Alexandria High School has tons of security guards. APD has a swat team ready to go within minutes. |
Abdel Elnoubi (running for district C) also has kids in ACPS. He used to be a PTA president. |
Elnoubi is a very genuine good person. I'm supporting him for sure. |
When was he a PTA president? If it was in the last 18 months, then that's a disqualifier for me. The PTA's were completely silent on school closures. |
I find this quote from Jacinta Green frustrating:
But, she said, ACPS wasn’t creative enough in reopening its in-person instruction to kindergarten-to-second graders and students with the greatest needs. “I just think we needed to bring them back faster,” she said. “It needed it needed to be more creative in doing it, with out of more out-of-the-box thinking.” She was on the school board while these decisions were being made. Hindsight is 20/20 but how vocal was she on this issue during the closure? Is there a particular SB meeting or two when she spoke out strongly about this? The quote seems like something one of the new candidates would say. Not a quote from someone who was partially responsible for keeping those kids out of schools. https://www.alxnow.com/2021/07/13/school-board-member-jacinta-greene-faces-reelection-wants-race-relations-taught-in-acps/ |
No, Greene only seemed to be concerned in the meetings I watched on whether sports were restarting. I don’t know how Greene contributes to the Board. |
That's what I remember too. Her statement that the curriculum is "whitewashed" is odd too considering that the SB votes on the curriculum. She's been a part of the board for three years. Is she saying that Dr. Monzingo would oversee and be happy with a "whitewashed" curriculum? If that's not the case, is she placing the blame with the teachers? It's the same thing as the comment on the school closures. These quotes make it sound like she's a new a new candidate and hadn't been a part of the board at all. She doesn't seem to acknowledge her role in anything. |
Jacinta Greene seems like a nice enough woman. However I will be voting for Ish Boyle and Willie Bailey. Not sure if I will vote for Michelle Reif or not. Both Greene and Rief were two of the SB members who voted against SROs. These comments yesterday seem to not acknowledge her part as an incumbent |
Purge them all. Schools stayed closed, they spend more time and effort on names this past year. Priorities. |
It's Alexandria. That will never happen. They worship local government officials here and it's weird. The incumbents will be re-elected. Nothing will change, ACPS will keep failing kids, they will all congratulate each other and Hutchings at SB meetings. All is forgotten and forgiven. Time to go back to pretending that ACPS is awesome to protect home values. And be sure buy Hutchings book although I'm sure ACPS will buy a copy for every student! Can't wait for that to come out, hope it's still slated for the fall. |
