Alexandria School Board Candidates

Vote them all out. They spent more time and energy on school renaming than opening them.

No she isn't. It would be the district with Maury.

She's not nice. I've known her over 10 years, and she's screamed at me, screamed at my kids, said horrible things about friends of mine, and left the incoming PTA president after her with a huge mess to handle. We just ignore her because something isn't right. I hope she finds some inner peace and calm for the sake of her kids.

I'm relatively new to ACPS. How does this work? The people in C are all elected because they are running unopposed? The people in A and B run and the top three vote getters in each voting district are elected to the board for three year terms? Do the elected board members represent their voting district or the entire school district? I ask because some schools like Maury or Lyles Crouch are split. For example, we live in B but we are zoned for Lyles Crouch. My SIL lives in Parker Gray and her kids attend Maury, which is in B but vote in A. My friends live in B but their kids attend Jefferson Houston in A.

I want to know more about Abdel Elnoubi and Christopher Harris since they are running unopposed. I only know that Abdel was the former PTA president at Tucker and he has kids in ACPS. What about Harris? He's the NAACP president. Does he have kids in ACPS or kids that graduated?

How Megan Alderton got to be the chair is beyond me since she does not have kids in ACPS and never had and had to get a COI exemption since she has family members including her husband at ACPS. Do you know where we can find the COI for each board member? How does someone get an exemption (i.e. their spouse already was an employee before they ran)?

This person people are talking about who was banned from ACPS and screamed at people, she was a PTA president? At Maury? She's on the current PTA or PTAC? But she is not running, correct? The only person with kids at Maury is Bridget Westfall. I can't imagine Bridget screaming at anyone and she is not on the PTA in a leadership role. I think her husband is the incoming treasurer for the Brooks PTA (former Maury).

They seem to have stellar resumes, but I want to know if they will hold the superintendent accountable. Communication is poor in ACPS and it seems like a game of telephone. It's really not as hard as they make it.

Ignacio’s resume isn’t stellar! She made it almost to the top, then got demoted back down to AP (and tried to get a Superintendent job elsewhere). She’d have been tossed long ago if her husband wasn’t loved in Alexandria.

The only people she cares about holding accountable are those she thinks crossed or failed to properly worship her.

Ignacio actually does a good job. The bullies don't like her and the reasons are many (she is more attractive which intimidates a lot of the wives, she speaks better, and she is a doer so she gets things done rather than just whine about the status quo). I have never worked with her directly; however, watching on the sidelines for many years she does a good job.

And Johnson is awesome. She doesn't cave to pressure and she stands up for the underdog and the undermined. She won't allow middle class mommy bullies to take advantage of the disadvantaged.

Ignacio does a good job of running off talented teachers (FCPS & area privates should thank her though!). And considering that she IS “the bullies” I find your statement curious-clearly you truly haven’t ever worked with her.

As for Johnson, I agree she does not cave to “pressure” even when she is completely in the wrong. I am not sure how Johnson refusing reasonable and appropriate requests of “middle class mommies” helps anyone, including the disadvantaged students you mention.

LOL. You're cherry picking quotes to meet your own agenda and you're screwing it up. You really think that this means your replies have weight when you can't even complete that simple task correctly? Really? Not.

They are running unopposed so they all get a spot? How does it work, the highest number of votes (high three) are elected? Who do you think will be elected? For A I think Rief, Greene, and Bailey. For B I think Baird, Ignacio, and Johnson. C is Alderton, Elnoubi, and Harris.

Thanks for getting this thread back on topic!
You are correct about C. I also think you are correct about A.
Your B prediction seems possible, but it also seems like it will have the most intense campaigning.

Sometimes I think DCUM and social media create a really distorted picture. If you had been reading DCUM before the primaries, you would have thought that folks were ready to burn Justin Wilson at the stake, and Allison Silberberg was the great savior. People insisted everyone hated what City Council had done, and primary would be this repudiation of all of them.

What happens? Wilson wins by significant margin, and the 6 who make the council ticket are every incumbent, and the two of the new candidates that the local paper described as most aligned with Wilson.

So, while I actually happen to think the quoted poster is making some reasonable predictions, just a general note to everyone that the rhetoric you read here and on social media

You are correct, PP.

The primary made clear that Alexandrians (at least the small segment that voted) are very happy with Wilson and the establishment. This includes Hutchings, central office and the current school board. So anyone aligned & affiliated with Wilson, the other incumbents and Hutchings will likely win the SB election in all the districts.

Don’t jump to conclusions. We just remember that Allison was and likely is nuts and was a horrible mayor. The lesser of 2 evils doesn’t mean someone condones the rest of the status quo.

What agenda? Johnson is poor candidate. That’s just the truth.

But how else would Hutchings have promoted the co-author (Douglas Reed) of his forthcoming book?

What was the current SB supposed to do? Question him on why his co-author had to headline multiple ACPS sponsored events on the name changes?! Nah - that's not how things work at ACPS.

No, for the last time the banned person IS NOT running for the school board nor is she the present PTA president. She was the PTA president a few years ago. I feel sorry for her, she's pretty strange and aggressive.

This thread needs to be taken down. It's in poor taste.
