Building on the messages about the school board election in the Non Binding Survey post, have there been any updates about who is running since this article from 5/5? Filing deadline is 6/8.
https://www.alxnow.com/2021/05/05/new-alexandria-school-board-shakeup-looms-as-few-incumbents-have-filed-to-run-for-reelection/ Running A: Michelle Rief (running again, has kids in ACPS) Jacinta Greene (running again, current board member) Chris Suarez (not running for re-election) B: Bridget Shea Westfall (new candidate, Open ACPS) Preenann Johnson (new candidate, Former Principal of the Year) Debbie Ash (new candidate) Margaret Lorber (current board member, not running) Cindy Anderson (current board member, appears undecided) Veronica Nolan (current Vice Chair, kids in ACPS, undecided) C: Meagan Alderton (running, Current Chair, kids to private school) Ramee Gentry (current board member, not running for re-election) Heather Thornton (current board member, undecided) Abdel-Rahman Elnoubi (new candidate) |
I don't have any updates, but I can confirm that Bridget Shea Westfall also has kids in ACPS. |
She also spends time on Facebook mocking residents who want more transparency and change in city government because she disagrees with them. |
MeeeOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW! |
The more problematic candidate in District B is Pre Ann Johnson. If you want someone resistant to change and completely in line with Hutchings, she is your candidate (ie a nightmare). |
100% agree. She is not the candidate you want if you think there needs to be positive accountability and change in ACPS. She is also defensive and not open to feedback. She will just be a Hutchings clone. |
I don't understand this Meow thing, if you don't like her, don't mock her. She also organized donations to school teachers. I will pick her over others. |
How is it mocking her? If you are planning on running for office maybe refrain from making fun of your potential constituents just because you disagree that local government should be more transparent and accountable to voters. It's not a good look. |
So that's a no for Johnson and no for Westfall from this district B voter. |
Please grow up. |
Rookie question: how many members are elected for each district? And each district is geographical, right? |
3 members for each district and the districts are geographic. There is discussion about making the Board smaller than 9. |
Anyone know why Suarez isn't running again? |
I think the meow poster was calling the previous poster catty. |
I’m confused. I thought the OpenACPS people disagree with Hutchings and the way decisions have been made by the school board.
(I’m not in district b so it won’t affect my vote.) |
