Former WIHT morning radio personality Peter "Kane" Diebler has passed away

I was privy to the knowledge that Kane passed away before it went public. It has been a lot to process. A lot. I knew what would follow such news. My phone would blow up and my DMs over run with people who “love to hear your thoughts.” My thoughts are complicated. My heart breaks for Sam and Sophie. They have joined the fatherless daughter club and it’s awful. I had a complicated father who didn’t always get it right, I loved him anyways. I pray that they heal from all the trauma and I hold so much space for Nat. What she has endured and what she will have to endure is unimaginable. I feel anger. Death doesn’t absolve people from the awful things they did while they were alive. Some people’s heroes are other people’s villains. Duality. I feel empathy for the fans and people who loved and knew a different version of Kane. Their pain is real and so is mine. It is infuriating to read memorials from people who knew the Kane that I knew and who even experienced similar things as me. Why people choose to romanticize who people were after they die, I don’t know, but it is very much triggering to victims. I hold space for the many women who had to move forward without apologies and zero accountability taken. The women who have had to heal from abuse the public couldn’t imagine. I’m appalled at giant media companies who were fully aware of the help he needed but instead chose millions and capitalism over helping someone who was clearly in need of help. I made a commitment to myself to no longer self-abandon. I have done too much of that in my life and a lot of that was in the way I allowed myself to be treated in media, by Kane and by Iheart. With that said, I could and would never celebrate anyone’s death and I also refuse to romanticize or grieve my abuser. I do want to thank Kane for an important life lesson. I am dedicated to living my life in a way that when I do go, I will not be the monster in anyone’s life story. Sending love and light to you all but especially to Kane’s mother and his children.

They should one day learn other people’s perception. Not today, but one day they’ll have to piece together who their father was.

He admitted he suffered from mental illnesses, and that there were actions he regretted as a result. Danni acknowledging his flaws in relation to her, while still saying she hopes his girls and family are well, is probably the best she can do right now. She’s endured a lot of trauma, most of which not connected to Kane, but her interactions with him triggered responses in her. As Natasha said, she struggled with him, but knows her loved their daughters. That’s about as good as she and Danni can get.

Kane, Sarah, Danni and Natasha all have/had issues. The poster who keeps defending Danni and Sarah here seems to think Kane did something awful. The worst I’ve heard is he was a jerk to work with. Nothing more, nothing less. He didn’t sexually harass anyone. He didn’t physically hurt anyone. You’re acting as if he was this horrific abuser and it couldn’t be further from the truth. So yes, it’s rational for us to criticize Danni and Sarah for using this moment to remind the public that hey, this man was mean to them. Who tf cares. He’s gone and there are 2 young girls left behind. Danni and Sarah both should have just stayed silent. Shame on them both.

Calling him a monster - that’s for her therapist’s office, because even his death seems to trigger a post-traumatic reaction. I don’t think that needs to be played out publicly.

I thought it was fine. I don't think it's her place to comment on other people who experienced his dark side now glorifying him. Not her place. She has a right to say he was abusive to her, but he loved his daughters. I think we go too far glorifying the dead and absolving them from things like abusive behavior. If you treat others like trash that should be part of your legacy.

This. No one said they had to romanticize Kane’s death. The simple choice here is to just be quiet. It’s not that difficult. If he didn’t have children I wouldn’t care as much, but he did. And they deserve better than this.

No they didn’t. They don’t need to prove anything .

Their hearts goes out to the girls. What else could they say. He was an asshole.

Nothing. The option was to say nothing.

Option is to say nothing, yet so many of you spend numerous posts asking aloud when they would comment on Kane's death.

It doesn’t. Danni is the most self-indulgent, oblivious person. I was about to ask how she would feel if Slim died and someone else wrote a similar post about the father of her kids, but that’s not relevant since Danni would make that about her too. I bet she would throw him under the bus for cheating on her one last time for good measure.

Believe it or not, it’s possible to see comments online asking for a reaction and... wait for it... ignore the comments. People are not banging down their doors asking for their opinion

But they are? Sarah Fraser said numerous media outlets have reached out to her. I was curious as to what they were going to say, but would have understood if they stayed silent.

All posts speculating on how he died are being deleted, but per his statement, he died following a long illness.

He had a messy divorce, and several former co-hosts spoke in recent years about his toxic behavior while they were on the show.

He spoke in depth about his divorce on air ONE time. It was a doozy, and wildly inappropriate, but it seems like he kept his comments on his divorce to subtle digs and backhanded unnamed insults after that one time.
