how does Niche rate schools? doesn't it rely a lot on surveys?

There is no way Poolesville ranks above the next three by any credible metric.

+1. Poolesville, what a joke.

Hard for some people to admit that a school in upcounty of all places is better than the coveted Ws.

Perhaps, but in this case it simply isn’t true.

When you say something that flies in the face of all the rankings, you need to provide data.

This is patently not “all the rankings.” It’s one methodology (and that’s a euphemism). And it’s unreliable.

1. Poolesville is ranked #2 in MD in US News so it’s not just Niche.

2. Explain to me specifically why Niche is not reliable. Note all rankings use surveys and Niche does not rely exclusively on surveys.

People just let themselves get deluded to rationalize their own poor decisions. If you wanted the best, you would have found a way into a W pyramid.

Provide data to back up your claims. We’ve provided Niche and US News rankings showing Poolesville above all, and in the case of US News all but one, school in MD. If you want to refute that claim provide data.

I repeat: provide data. Otherwise you just come across as elitist.

It's far more plausible that Poolesville is #1 than either Churchill or Whitman in the top five. Seriously, Whitman is one of the lowest ranked schools in the count and is a GS 4.

Do some research, your ignorance is showing.

Whitman isn’t a gs4, it is an 8. It has a test score rating of 4 due to PARCC results which are strange seeing that it also has the highest SAT scores in the state and DC metro excluding TJ

Overall 8, test scores 4, equity overview 5, low-income students 3. If you were going to spend a lot of money on a house based on Great Schools ratings, you wouldn't want to do it for a house zoned for Whitman HS.

+1. You could spend a little more and get a house in BCC which is better for commutes downtown or spend less and buy in Churchill (GS10) or Wootton (GS9).

No, because

-Churchill is a horrible school, according to posters on DCUM
-Wootton has a 5 for equity overview and a 6 for low-income students
-B-CC has a 5 for equity overview and a 3 for low-income students

So you would cross those off the list, too.

Why would one look at the low income scores for schools like Whitman? What did Jamar flunk a test? The sample size makes it mean next to nothing and besides if you are looking to buy in the Whitman area you are clearly not low income and would be more concerned with the high functioning peer group of the other 98% of the kids.

The GS website lists Whitman as a 4.
