I know this is dumb but... What do y'all think? I'd say-

Whitman
Churchill
WJ
BCC
Wootton
Poolesville
QO
RM
Sherwood
Clarksburg

Okay everyone's list is going to be these 10 schools in a different order 5-10. And they are all good schools. The important thing to know is that anything besides these schools is not really great. Except Blair which should've made the list either 10 or 11.

RM only because IB. Last two are so-so at best.

I love how OP puts Poolesville below all the W schools, even though every ranking site puts it higher.

I assume OP lives downcounty?

List is no particular order.

Yup, gotta justify putting Poolesville in there because god forbid you just say an up-county school is good.

Poolesville is obviously a top school but take out the magnets then what do you have? I'm saying the whole school as a whole including local students. Overall still a top 10 school in the county.

You know it’s dumb, but you went ahead anyway?

What a loser.

Oh yeah, I know what you have: a bunch of upcounty kids who clearly are inferior to the downcounty kids in the W schools, right?

Ha ha. If you take out the magnet then you will not have a school because the population is sparse there. Poolesville is not a school within a school, it is almost wholly magnet. Much like TJ in VA. Also, these magnet kids are coming from UoCounty so it totally qualifies.

Magnet kids are usually not from the poorest families. So if you only count the FARMS families in a school and take away middle class and above, all schools will look the same.

My ranking is based on where a cohort of really smart kids can get the most rigorous courses. I am actually clustering it to show that some of these schools are as good as others.
Poolesville - Blair - RM
Whitman - BCC - WJ
Churchill - Wootton - QO- Northwest

It does not matter where your kid goes. It matters what courses your kid takes in HS and how well they do in these courses. Being Asian/White or going to W schools do not make you high achievers. The school may be top ranked but your kid could still be low performing.

Don't tell that to the W school parents! They believe their kids are smarter and that they care about education more than the upcounty parents.

LOL Yes we could have afforded churchill or whitman(house now is $1.1) but ended up choosing QO because of how well-rounded it was. We didn't want our kids to be the bottom of their school and feel dumb. We also didn't want our kids to think they were poor compared to their peers or think they were better because they went to a top school. It's important to push kids but not too much like in some of the W's. And to find a nice and active community. Doesn't matter how "good" your school is as long as the school isn't gang-infested and has enough for a good student to succeed.

Agreed! Of course, the W school parents think QO is part of Ganglandia
