| Does anyone have any UChicago salary data that comes close to the UVA Mcintire data? median $75k first-year, plus $10k signing and $20k annual bonus |
I'm going to guess its lower because UC sends fewer grads to Wall St. and more to advanced degree program (i.e grad school that pays peanuts) |
Unless things have changed greatly in the last few years there are few Chicago grads working in NY firms compared to their peers at other big schools (why SF? That's Silicon Valley). Chicago is a big place and post-collegiate is always a very different experience than undergraduate, even in the same city. The simple truth is that historically Chicago undergrad has not placed as many kids in the finance/business world. It wasn't that kind of school. |
Historically that is very true but times have changed for the University in the last 5 years. The campus is filling with Prep school kids who are supported by one of the largest if not largest career counseling offices in the country. In fact there is a special track for business. Between that, the finance and consulting clubs and the support the kids are getting from Booth alumni in addition to UChicago alums (admitted fewer due to the history but they did very well) placement has really changed. DC and friends have had meaningful internships since freshman year without our help. |
| SF... UChicago kids are being recruited into firms like Google. I think it's the STEM reputation and there's also an entrepreneur division that is attracting much attention. Some kids are electing to do that vs the BB or consulting firms. The computer science program is also now heavily staffed by former Berkeley professors which also likely comes into play. Just conjecture of course. I don't really know why but the west coast seems to like UChicago kids. |
... maybe because it's an excellent school with a reputation for having really smart students? jeez. |
| That's very true but I didn't want to hold myself out as an expert. What one recruiter did tell DC was that in the past they were interested in UChicago but OCR wasn't worth it because kids didn't show up. Now that there's a critical mass of kids, UChicago is a target school. Hearsay is that the clubs alone are allocated more slots than UMichigan in entirety. |
You do know Chicago is almost $80K a year? You have to go make $140 to make that nut after taxes in your additional part-time job. Education is important but not these obscene prices at the undergraduate level. I have two in UVA at $26K a year and one is looking to law school now at almost $100K a year in three years' time. Try juggling that with taking care of elderly parents, trying to put away some cash for retirement, and tuition for SN schools. You will be thrilled when your kid gets accepted in-state. |
Where’s the proof of this? Where’s the proof Chicago is now getting more IB offers than any Midwest b-school? |
no proof offered of any of these lofty claims. weird...

Comparable data doesn’t exist because there’s no undergrad business school at UChicago. And the post I’ve quoted arguably misrepresents the McIntire data — only 63% reported a signing bonus and only 43% reported an annual bonus. |
Sounds like the poster was the parent who has one kid at Ross and one at UChicago and said that both had offers (and friends with offers) high than the UVA stays. |
| I won't engage with the crazy poster. Yes, info is anecdotal but my kids' experiences do not appear to be atypical. They're not holding themselves out to be campus wonders. |

Higher than the UVA stats — I hate auto”correct”!
Non-engagement makes sense. Just wanted you/others to know some PPs are reading carefully and taking what you say seriously. |

Absolutely, the University of Chicago will challenge the mind and demand the student to work and to think.
The UVa student chases skirt and swizzles beer. |
