Is U Chicago worth cost over in-state UVA?

I know both schools very well and they are so dissimilar that anyone applying to both would be pretty uncertain as to what they are looking for in a college experience. The respective profiles for 2021 classes show that UChicago accepted 679 students who chose not to enroll - Duke accepted 1536 who chose not to enroll. So cross admits are students without a strong sense of self or commitment to a particular university - what do you suggest that this reveals about the qualities and characteristics of either school??

This thread has jumped the shark!

But...but...but... Duke has beautiful, preppy vibrant girls!!!! .... Insists the idiot Duke booster who can't fathom why Duke is barely getting any kids from the top private schools but desperately wants Duke to be a top choice amongst these kids so just makes shit up

I really don't understand the Duke booster / Chicago denigrater. We're team Chicago in my family, but I think very highly of the Duke alumni, students, and faculty I've encountered and have no desire to slam their university. Why are we indulging this insane debate? See also: don't feed the troll!

That is, I think very highly of every other Duke alumnus I've encountered. This one has issues.

Because in the insane world of social media taking the high road had no benefits. In this world, the rule of Trump rules supreme. If some one even dares to look at you the wrong way, you gouge out their eyes, figuratively of course.

She is a racist white sorority low life from Duke who probably lost her boyfriend to a feminine Asian woman and now hates all Asians and is apoplectic at how much more popular Chicago had become with private prep school kids, a playground she thought Duke would have a stranglehold on. Jealousy and rage fuels her diseased body and soul and several good burns is good for her

Ahem. Way to elevate the conversation. (I'm the poster who just doesn't understand why this argument is continuing.)

Because two people, one on each side, think it’s fun.

What would be relevant to this discussion is how many of those 679 UChicago deflections went to Duke? This is visible on social media: the answer is a LOT.

How many of those Duke 1536 ended up at Chicago? Again, visible on social media: very few.

As for who's "confused"? Top kids apply ED/EA to one top 15, then much of the rest of the top 15 RD and go to the best one they get into. From looking at c/o 2021 and 2022, it's clear as day smart kids still put Columbia and Duke ahead of Chicago.

You're so desperate and thirsty to make this happen, but it's not. Look at the c/o 2021 and 2022 groups... Columbia has NYC hipsters and international rich kids, Duke has gorgeous well-rounded rich prep school kids... Chicago still full of the same homely strivers.

So that’s why Andover sent 4 kids to Duke last year, 8 to Columbia, and 13 to Chicago? Gotcha.

So now that you have admitted you are a racist white female, lets destroy the other dream world you have conjured up. DUKE DOES NOT EVEN A THIRD OF THE RECRUITS THAT CHICAGO GETS FROM THE TOP ELITE PRIVATES. Duke has southern sorority sluts who couldn't get admitted anywhere else. The well rounded gorgeous rich prep school kids are not going to DUKE, you idiot. Look at the matriculation numbers at Andover, Exeter, Horace Mann and other schools.

Yup. Exeter’s classes of 2015-2017:

Duke: 8
Columbia: 42
Chicago: 23

Top-tip: "prep schools" is not synonymous with five NE boarding schools you cherry-picked to force your point.

Handsome polished rich kids flock to Duke. Unfortunate homely strivers flock to Chicago.

When a kid gets into Chicago EA/RD and then Duke or Columbia RD (or off the waitlist), they end up at Duke or Columbia. I'm sorry this triggers you, it's a fact.

I looked at the prep school matriculation destinations across 12 private universities. The only school that did worse than Duke in terms of prep school admits was MIT. At every one of these schools, Chicago gets 3x-5x times the students that Duke gets. So much for this ridiculous fantasy

Harvard-Westlake is in LA you idiot. Over a four year period they send 2x times students to Chicago than they sent to Duke. And that is the case with most other schools as well. Duke is for white sorority sluts. You should know.

I would find it very surprising if this was a large enough pool of students from which you could draw any meaningful conclusions, because these schools are so different that only a very uninformed applicant would apply to both. At our large public school, the top 3 overlaps with UChicago was Northwestern, Penn and Columbia in that order.
