FCPS Ready to Screw Poorer/GenEd Kids Again

Anonymous
Updated projections are Thoreau 77% and Poe 82%. And we know how accurate FCPS's projections are.

The actual, not projected enrollment at FCPS middle schools is located here. http://151.188.217.200/fts_drupal_support/dashboard/enrollment/msenroll17-18.html

Ha! I told you about 16 pages ago that this ship has sailed. Unanimous.

If you live in the Jackson/Falls Church district, you should try to get out as soon as possible. The School Board just ensured all your neighborhoods will crater within the next 5-10 years.

Or maybe stay and have some faith that your kid will do just as well as s/he always has. The teachers and programs are still the same.

Agreed. I think we all knew that. However the fact that there was no discussion tells me that One Fairfax is a farce.

It also tells me FCPS and the school board are making boundary decisions entirely unchecked from the Board of Supervisors.

What happened with the boundary change? I missed it!!

The most idiotic part was when the board talked about how they were reducing split feeders as they were creating a 3-way split feeder out of Thoreau onto high school.

Does anyone have a link?

You will have to wait till it's posted here.

Every academic program at Jackson will degrade. The Gen Ed population will skew significantly poorer, and ever-larger percentages of the AAP families at Thoreau who send their kids to LJ in the past will stay at Thoreau instead.

Seriously, if you own there, you should try to get out before it becomes completely obvious what FCPS has done. There's still a bit of time before the statistics head south in a big way and become public.

Drama free decision by the school board. Quite the opposite of the discussion on this thread.

Was it unanimous?
All of Oakton, Marshall, and Mosby that go to a Oakton will now feed to Thoreau?
When does it go into effect?

The funniest part was Palchik made the motion and Keys-Gamarra seconded it. It might as well have been "I move that we redistrict the wealthiest neighborhoods currently assigned to Luther Jackson MS to Thoreau MS and promote the concentration of low-income and minority students at what was once a segregated high school and can yet again be a segregated middle school."

They could not be bigger hypocrites if they tried. Keys-Gamarra is a complete tool and liar.
