Odd that Washington DC viewers object to Reporter BBC’s accent as “lower class.” She does have a twang. But so do lots of English speakers. What economic class they belong to is not relevant as it might have been when Shaw wrote “Pygmalion.” And wasn’t he mocking exactly these comments about accent and class?
Let’s judge not by the type of accent but by the content of the report. If hard to understand, try closed captioning. |
THIS. |
| It is not so much her low class accent that hurts the ears. It is her gritty voice......just horrible to listen to on the air. |
| Quite agree. She does sound bad and we can't listen to her. We always check who is anchoring and when it is Laura we change channels. |
| I just Googled her and found this Site. Wow! I am not alone in not being able to listen ti her. |
| I think she sounds fine. But then agai. I have a high pitched voice. Not British though. Now, Australian accents are another matter. I HATE Australian accents! |
| She sounds awful to most ears. |
| Her accent is terrible, get her off the air asap. |
| With 17 pages of complaints, why does BBC America still keep that gritting voice on the air? |
| Maybe because most of these "complaints" are written by one Anonymous user with a personal vendetta against her? |
| She sounds between a cockney and a Liverpool accent. Bottom line is a gritting, nerve hitting voice that doesn't belong on television. |
It's very simple. The BBC wants to maintain its market share in the American media bubble, especially with LT being the wife of an ABC boss! Does anyone know of any other TV presenter who provokes a similar level of complaint, for anything other than the views the presenter may espouse? |
| Never heard these complaints about anyone else. BBC doesn't seem to care. She sounds really disturbing. |
| OMG...she is still on BBC America. Why do they keep this woman who is soooo difficult to listen to. |
|
I am a Londoner and find her accent gawd awful. I cannot understand why she is still on the BBC. Please have Jane O’Brien anyone but her reading the news.
Remove her, or does her husband have a hold over BBC? |
