Laura Trevelyan's accent

I am amazed this thread is still active — going on 3 years people!

It warms my heart that I do not stand alone in my total distaste of Trevelyan’s botched accent and speech impediments. Why does the Beeb insist on perpetuating our cringe extremities ? The word ‘world’ becomes ‘wewarld’ somehow and he many other distatasteful efforts at English speaking defy analysis. Apparently an intelligent woman surely she can climb uo to her attic room and ecpress them out of sight.

It isn't just her accent. Her voice is sort of repulsive. With her Husband as Exec at ABC News, I doubt we will be rid of her soon.

What a relief this evening to have Jane O'Brian. We can watch BBC News in full. Laura.....stay home. Retire. Spare us!

The only reason Laura Trevelyan has her job at BBC World News America is that she is the wife of the ABC president, and her accent is widely disliked, as is confirmed by the existence of this forum for more than 3 years.

It is time to ACT.

We want the BBC to appoint someone to this post at World America News, who has the relevant qualifications, including an accent which is more acceptable to American viewers than that of Laura Trevelyan.

Are you ready, guys?

All you need to do is to 'like' and 'endorse' this post

Go for it.

Yes, I fully endorse the removal of Laura Trevelyan, off the air of BBC World News. Her accent and high pitched voice are unbearable. I would gladly sign a petition if one is circulated.

Thank you. Elizabeth

Please someone start a Petition to get this dreadful voice off the air. I would be happy to sign.

I was the original OP and I am also amazed but her voice is just as bad today as it was three years ago.

having lived for three years in London, and hearing many versions of British accents, she is my personal champion of irritating accents on air. It seems
to my untrained ear she is attempting a posh accent, suitable for her position, but cannot for the life of her, get through one sentence, it seems without lapsing into her default through-the-nose, Audrey Hepburn-Liza wailing cockney-sounding, bain of profession Higgins, and teeth rattling, accent.
On PBS, the BBC world news America is my go-to TV newscast, but it is all I can do to make it through the half hour without my version of the question: why can't the English teach their children how to speak? Most of your reporters do well, but Laura unfortunatley fails miserably.

You are all f. xenophobic. Saying this is like saying “the color of her skin is irritating”. What a country! Unbelievable.

I can't believe all these posts and she is still on the air. Her voice is so very gritting it is impossible to listen to for long. I shudder when I hear her and applaud when her substitutes are on the air.

Doesn't BBC look at these Comments. Perhaps they don't care. She truly does sound awful and someone should know it.

She seemed a bit tone deaf to her own lineage.

"I was constantly surprised by the amount of people who knew about Charles Trevelyan and the impact that the famine has in Ireland, more than 150 years later, yet I felt ashamed that I didn't know all that much about him."

Why wouldn't people remember the man who starved their families top death? Those scars run deep & they're told to future generations to prevent it from happening again.
