There are so many excellent colleges in the US and around the world. Even if I was a billionaire I wouldn't donate 15-20 million just to get my child into a specific school. I honestly think that would be frivolous. |
| Jared kushner, husband of ivanka trump, and by all accounts a mediocre student got into harvard after a 2.5 mn donation. |
| The $2.5M is only a down-payment. You better believe those admissions/development officers look at the Forbes 400 list to see what the potential is for future cash flows. Typically, the wealthy families continue to donate as the doltish scion matriculates, graduates, and becomes a successful alum. You start with an in-kind contribution for admissions and move forward to building naming rights. Yale just "sold" naming rights to its new residential college for $250M. |

Not surprising. As much as people will deny Malia and Sasha getting into their colleges on their own merit the Obamas certainly won't be donating millions of dollars to get their daughters into the Ivy League. Wasn't Sidwell disappointed at the Obamas for only donating signed magazines at their fundraiser. |
The Obamas donate every year to Sidwell. It's itemized in their tax returns which the White House releases. |
Trust me I'm well aware. That's the standard. But it would be different if last year they made a multi-million dollar donation to Stanford and Harvard to try to get Malia in. Key words = get their daughters in . |
Are you daft? What difference does a donation make in their case? |
| Wherever she goes, whatever she does, Malia will end up richer and more successful than anyone here. The sky is the limit for the president's earning potential, post-presidency. He'll clear 500 million easily. |
Are you daft? Because this is the point I was making. Not because they are a presidential family but because they have a family history of high achievers. |
Is that even a question? |
| Harvard it is. And no, not everyone at Sidwell knew before today. |

This whole thing has been pretty funny to follow.
After she made her initial tour of schools, some online site speculated that she would probably go to Columbia, NYU, or Barnard because "she liked film" and had an internship on "Girls." Suddenly that piece of wild speculation got picked up by other outlets. Then a Columbia online site did an April Fools joke saying she was going to Barnard, and that got picked up. Meanwhile, a lot of people on this site - some seemingly with Sidwell connections - have been saying all along that it's between Stanford and Harvard, and in the recent weeks seem to be coalescing around Harvard. It will be a vindication for this site as a source of reliable gossip if that is indeed her final choice, but a blow if it is not. |
| I heard Wesleyan. Great film department. Guys who created Hamilton and In the heights went there etc. it's a popular place these days. |
| It's the Big H. |
