Beauvoir Scandal?

Jeff, I'm puzzled why you chose to include clues in the article that make it pretty easy to track down the name of the individual in question, given that you also chose to remove his name from the posts in this thread.

Honestly, I wasn't aware that I did that and it certainly wasn't my intention. I took a look at the paragraph about the teacher again this morning with a fresher perspective and I'm still not sure that I would agree with your assessment, though you could be right.

Here is a Washington Examiner article about the incident:

Maybe it's only easy if you followed the forum as obsessively as I did this spring.

Thanks, Mr. Steele, for your great summary article and insights. Thanks also for posting the articles. A local community blog (Ward3)also picked this up. They linked to DCUM. I'm not sure how to paste the link here. Sorry.

It will be interesting to see what the DCUM community thinks of the coverage. I thought they were fair and balanced. Great grace under pressure, Ms. Carriero.

For those who posted seeking either to harm Beauvoir for whatever reason, or to attempt to artificially limit the numbers of applications this coming fall in the hope of giving your application better odds, I think the irony is that applications will only increase. This is the publicity of the worst kind, no doubt. But there is a school of thought that all press is good press. More will apply because they might have heard of Beauvoir for the first time. More will apply because it is clear that the school handled a difficult situation well. More will apply b/c the odds are the school will create safeguards to ensure this will never happen again. Certainly more will apply because in the end, it is pretty clear that school leadership embodied by Ms. Carriero are strong and compassionate. And she listens here and elsewhere.

Balderdash. The school issued a boilerplate statement. The articles shed no light on how well the situation was handled.

Yes, many of most negative posts on this thread have been over the top, but the sycophantic posts are equally unappealing. "Great grace under pressure"? "Strong and compassionate"? Such strong words of praise have to be earned through action, and nothing in these short articles suggests that the school administration has done that.

Doesn't say much.
Anyone heard about what happened at Beauvoir--apparently a teacher was found with pornographic images of some of the kids? Anyone know the specifics?
It's hard to belive that the great school is doing this! It makes me sick

It is just a link referring to this thread.

I do find the elimination of the pedestrian signal interesting. Obviously not on topic for this discussion, but what is DDOT thinking? I loved that light!

If there are specific points that you believe I missed, please point them out. My article is purely electronic and can be updated with a few key clicks. The statements from the school are what they are and I don't think you can expect much more. But I can tell you that I have asked very specific and detailed questions to school officials and have not once been told "no comment". I have limited experience conducting interviews of this sort, but in what little experience I do have, I have never found people to be so willing to provide information.

Editing to add, as is apparent from one of m earlier messages, I hope to have a similar opportunity to talk to the school's harshest critic in this thread. So, far, I have not heard from him.

The Examiner article was far more informative than the Post article - and, as a result, even more disturbing. It had not yet been discussed on here that there are photos of more than one child and that the photos involve "inappropriate touching" of the children as well. Heartbreaking.

My prayers go out to all of the children and parents whom this situation has affected directly.

As a Beauvoir parent I can tell you that I MYSELF was not told that there were photos of inappropriate touching. So I'm wondering if the Examiner has provided incorrect information.

The article quotes the Commander involved in the investigation.
