The academic pedigree of UChicago was built upon the backs of pure intellects, not a bunch of “polished”, DC trust fund babies. If you know anything about the school, you know that Chicago never gave 2 wits about polish. And that their new admissions preferences are first and foremost about finances, not merit.

Except all of the kids are still wicked smart.

Many of the people on here seem to struggle with the reality that there are way more super smart kids than there are spots across a dozen or so schools, and so all of these schools have incredible students.

+100 - the haters are just upset that there can be polished smart kids that happen to be well off. The NYC private kid I know at UChicago majors in math with perfect SAT scores, and is very well spoken and intellectually driven. This is not an either or situation. They are ALSO wicked smart.

agree. its like you can't be wealthy and smart?

This is true of the graduate program, but not necessarily the undergrad program. They rapidly expanded their undergrad in the past 20 years in an attempt to catch up with the Ivies. They like the elite private school kids because they are just very, very smart and very prepared.

They also give preference to elite magnet school kids from schools like Stuyvesant and TJHSST. Research shows high school rigor is the biggest predictor of college performance. It makes total sense to reward students that endured a very tough curriculum, because they are most equip to take advantage of an elite college education.

Overuse of the word "very." Schools like UChicago like private school kids who have taken the most rigorous curriculum offered, because they are generally smart and well-prepared. That's about it.

This is not news. Cathedral schools send about that number every year. Great school and these are top students.

I'm not sure why people are being defensive about this reality. UChicago loves elite private school kids that aren't necessarily "top students" and would be overlooked by Ivies.

At least have of the UChicago Sidwell admits are not ED0 or ED1. So, what’s your point?

Btw, this thread is about Sidwell.

Have heard some ED0 UChicago admits didn’t post on insta right away so no one knew they were in the pay to play program. No idea if this happened at Sidwell in particular but you can’t assume admittance date just based on when the kid posted (unless they posted very early).

Chicago students themselves believe their ED practice is inequitable and non-transparent.

They are correct. However, UChicago is ultimately a business, and I don’t see them shutting this cash cow down anytime soon.

Not NCS—at least not this year. I can’t speak for STA because they like to hide everything.

My DD is currently a junior at Lville and this is absolute fiction.

I mean, it is very true at Lawrenceville. ED1 from Lawrenceville is basically an auto-admit if you have good grades/scores. Your kid is a sophomore so you don't really have access to all the college information yet.

PP - my daughter is a junior (not sophomore) and I have access to the college information. UChicago ED1 is not an auto-admit.

I would have hated to be at a school that size with a dozen or more of my high school classmates.

There's about 8k undergrads or 0.15% from your old school.
They would need to actively find each other amid all the excitement of meeting new dorm mates and club members.

They don’t hide anything more than any other school - barely any schools provide matriculation lists. But yes, the kids there don’t make an Instagram page (which is not affiliated with the school) and I don’t blame them.

I’m a student at a feeder private school and UChicago gave me a half ride after getting in ED2

This. It's not STA that is hiding the info. It's the boys that don't post. These DMV Instagram are all student-run outside of the one by Georgetown Prep.

STA is more transparent than almost any school. They post the entire list every June in the school magazine.

School needs money badly, full pay private families with no ties to HYP Ivies seek so called prestige.
