It took me 2 hours to get home because of traffic and single lane streets (normally 2 lanes). Its working the last few days because Feds teleworked, schools closed etc. |
They arent told any secret info. They are planning for reopening because that is their job. |
You don’t think they have more insight and knowledge than you random parent sitting at home? |

With the end of quarter situation, APS has a problem if they don’t open. The superintendent has now communicated a plan addressing end of quarter predicated on opening Monday. That is not done lightly. Sure an asteroid could hit Sunday and things could change. But the man had all the information he was going to get when they made the end of quarter plan and an email went out.
People with younger kids don’t pay attention to end of quarter. |
| The end of the quarter really shouldn’t be too much of an issue. The kids had an entire week to make up work. |
| My weather app shows a high temp of 34 degrees over next 10 days. We gain nothing by canceling Monday. It’ll be rough and some kids will slip on icy sidewalks. But they’re going. |
I do think they will open but if they don’t they will just extend the grading period. In Loudoun our quarter ended 1/22 and grades were supposed to be done 1/29- that was extended to 2/3 because of the closure. They can move it. |
| Honestly, the high school should go virtual to finish up the semester grades, especially for the seniors who need those grade updates for their applications. |
Forget makeup work…HS kids had midterms and tests scheduled last week. Now those are being pushed to be held Monday with no prep time (those classes missed last week) and over a week off. Due to block scheduling, kids with tests on Tuesday may or may not be part of 2nd quarter grades. When tests are a large portion of your grade, this doesn’t seem reasonable. If your kid has a borderline B for example and knows they’ll do well on the mid term to push to A, it doesn’t seem right to penalize the kids due to an arbitrary date of closing the grade book. These kids are so stressed in APS already. The competition for college admissions is insane. |
It’s a huge issue! |
Zero clues |
They didn’t move it. The APS superintendent already sent a message. |
DP – I know he said grades closed Tuesday, but another teacher told us they don’t have to get them in until Thursday…. |
The Tuesday deadline is meant to give the teacher time to grade last minute things and turn it around. I’m sure individual teachers can give discretion to turn things in at the last minute if they want to be accommodating and little grading effort is required. |
| Schools that can open should open. If there are extenuating circumstances for a particular school than deal with it individually. Holding an entire district hostage because some schools may have issues is not equity. |
