So Monday is a lock.
I'm assuming Tuesday will be closed as well -- look at MCPS already announcing. Will we get Wed and Thur? Fri is already a school holiday... |
| At best Thursday 2 hour delay. |
| I think school is out all week given that temps will not get above freezing until next week. The roads and sidewalks are going to pretty bad. |
Agree, though I think all week is a safe bet |
Should be Thursday but probably won’t be. I’d guess all week. Temps not above freezing over the next weekend or early next week either but at some point it apparently gets embarrassing and they just send them back to school anyway. |
|
I don't know what temps being below freezing has to do with anything. They keep the kids inside from recess if it feels like its 33, or its something like that.
My original bet was closed Monday and Tuesday, delayed start Wednesday. I stand by that but won't be surprised if they're closed Wednesday too and have a delayed start Thursday. |
It has to do with being able to clear the streets and sidewalks. Ice melt is less effective and plowing is significantly more difficult, particularly on sidewalks. |
You must be new here. Kids here don’t go to school if there is snow or ice remaining on roads or sidewalks. This region can typically rely on warm temps to melt things off and when that doesn’t happen people are very uncomfortable venturing out. |
| I think out Monday and Tuesday; possibly back Wed with a 2 hr delay. But I wouldn’t be shocked if they are out all week, especially if Fairfax stays closed (& FCPS is already closed on Thurs). |
| Out all week. It’s like Antarctica out there and there’s no point risking it for one day (Thurs). |
| Our street has several inches. I guess we got plowed at some point based on the Arlington tracking site but you wouldn’t know looking at it. |
lol it’s like Antarctica |
The quarter/semester ends Thursday. For a lot of high schoolers who have makeup tests or retakes, that could be a problem. Or just push unfinished grades to 3Q. |
agree. Something about not all kids having proper clothes to walk to or wait for bus stop. |
|
I just went to walk the dog and Antarctica is funny but kind of true- I was stepping on piles of snow covered with ice. The sidewalks we shoveled last night have a thin layer of ice. We will try to get rid of it- but how do you get rid of ice when it’s below zero?
No school through Wednesday at least. I bet they try to get a day in Thursday to get one more day this semester but not sure. |
