Super interesting! Thank You! It's fun to imagine what I'd be like in those times. Knowing society as it is now, my first inclination is that I'd be like standoffish Eloise but that may be just because I don't really have a full appreciation of the status of women and their potential small spheres of influence. Also in previous seasons Eloise was much more likeable and appeared to have strong viewpoints. Now she mainly complains. |
| I miss Portia Featherington’s shenanigans. |
|
Like someone mentioned up thread, I'm interested in learning more about Varley. What does she do in her free time? Hope will she fare in her new post?
I'm guessing/hoping Varley may end up back with the Featheringtons in the end, but at a higher pay rate. I was so offended on her behalf by those old dresses. |
| We also really haven’t seen much of Penelope’s sisters. They often provided some comedic relief. Side note, one of them is dating the actor who plays Benedict. Lucky gal!! |
I don’t understand what you think this conversation is about? It is an artistic/literary production in a long traditions of getting inspiration from the historical era. Of course there are myriad influences visible including common plots and novels - I mean if you didn’t see the reference to Mr Darcy in the lake (which is actually from the miniseries and not the book!) I don’t know what to tell you. Nobody is claiming that they plagiarized or whatever but the influence of various sources (Pamela, Cinderella, the BBC Pride and Prejudice) are easy to see! |
I have a funny feeling she will end up reporting stuff back to Portia regarding Lady Pemberley’s evil deeds. |
Someone said the plot was “literally lifted from Pamela” and I’m not sure that’s true. |
Ugh. Again nobody is saying that plagiarism was committed. Stop being so literal. |
It is not the same story at all anyway. Touch grass honey. |
You seem to be trying to start something over nothing. Responding rudely if someone doesn’t 100 percent agree with you. It’s very odd. I think I know you. You are the Dr. Collins lover from the The Pitt thread. You like to stir up drama in turn every thread about a show. |
You do understand what the word “influence” means right? |
I said nothing about plagiarism. I said I don’t believe Bridgerton Season 4 is “literally lifted from Pamela.” Influenced maybe? Would have to hear from the writers of the show. Stop being so confrontational and rude. |
And I didn't think they had any chemistry at ALL! She was so wooden, and he was completely one dimensional. I watched the first season since I like things like Downton Abbey and P&P but honestly couldn't get into it. Never watched other seasons. |
I don’t watch The Pitt, so no. But yes I am pushing back against the PPs who claim that discussing the historical background and literary/artistic influences is somehow out of line. |
This all started with a PP (maybe not you) insulting posters for bringing up obvious influences and historical background. And no it is not necessary for the writers room to list everything they have read or seen to see it! I mean taking the easier examples, Cinderella and the famous Mr Darcy lake scene are obvious! |
