Belle Burden’s “Strangers”

I know a family who had the same thing happen during the pandemic, high earning husband walked out and didn’t want any custody, got an apartment too small for overnights. And another friend is going through it now. Her STBX was siphoning her family money to help support a single mom affair partner. In both cases the husbands rose from dysfunctional childhoods due to being bright, charismatic and attractive, with prestigious educations that boosted them to their wives social spheres. It turns out both husbands were committing financial and romantic infidelity for years and basically living lies. I hope the book helps my friends feel less alone in realizing they were married to strangers.

Most men would only marry if they feel they could use woman . One way or another

She didn't have to write a book. She just needed a you her stallion with a good D and forget about the loser

Or maybe because she is wealthy she thought it can't happen to her?

Every woman should never utter "I don't think he would ever do this to me" when their husband cheats on them. Men cheat and they will never stop. It doesn't matter if you are waitress, a CEO, a billionaire, a Prime minister, a spy. If a man is going to cheat on you, he will do so.

Burden didn’t need to write a book. She chose to write a book. She said her mother had also faced infidelity in her relationships and in her social class women were supposed to just smile, rug sweep and carry on. She wanted to defy that expectation.

Defying expectations alone isn’t a great idea. In the Modern Love podcast, she said that a friend asked why she was printing all this. I wouldn’t say this after my friend showed me her by-line, but if she told me about the idea before she published, I would have certainly asked her what she hoped to get out the experience.

I feel sorry for people who are so constrained that they live their lives worrying that others might disapprove of actions that “a friend” might deem “unexpected.”

I feel sorry for people who think that everyone (even friends) will receive their actions, even puzzling ones, with unmitigated approval.

Maybe they don't care.

The kids part is what really gets me. I cannot understand his behavior. I think he sounds like a psycho on that front But, I also cannot understand how she could be married to a person for 20 years who could just walk away from his kids like that and be blindsided by that. I know how much my husband and I are obsessed with our kids.

How much money do you think she’ll make from this book?

Do ordinary authors ever make a lot of money from their books?

Because he’s not an ass who wants to take the kids from her.

He’s just an ass who decided he preferred being a sperm donor.

Belle met her ex not long after her father died, and he reminded her physically of his dad. He didn't have the temper of her father and thought she would not have the life her grandmother/mother had with their cheating husbands.

Men with opportunity especially in the finance world cheat just because they can.

Tinsley Mortimer, Tamara Mellon, Gillian Hearst are also divorced.

The funny thing is that two of the society women who remained in their society marriages are Nicky Hilton Rothschild and Paris Hilton Reum.

My guess is someone will buy the rights to do a streaming series or movie on Netflix from it.

I know. Maybe -- and just entertain this possibility -- she is not a reliable narrator..

Lauren Santo Domingo has also remained married.

Davis reminds me of a younger William H Macy.

Oh you can bet this was run through the legal department with a fine tooth comb and if this were not true then it would not have been published because he could have sued her and her publisher for slander and/or defamation of character. Her claim is pretty damning. He didn't refute it.

It’s so clear how few of you understand the psychology behind why men (and women) cheat, and it has nothing to do with looks, although if you’re destined to cheat, I guess shoot your shot?

People cheat because they are flawed and insecure, not because their spouse has aged.
