Now THIS is classically elegant. I so wish Jennifer Garner has worn something like this instead.

Jennifer Garner? She did wear something classically elegant:

The red carpet pics muddy the dress so much. You can't see the skirt is made up of tiers of beaded loops, which is swingy and beautiful when she walks.

But the entire point here is to pick a dress that works on the red carpet!! If it doesn’t work in still photos, don’t choose it.

I agree with this. I also tend to think it was a series of factors that make the still photos so dull and aging, making it a styling fail. The cut of the top of the dress is matronly. Even in the photos where you can see how well the dress moves, I think the jewel neck with the tank sleeves just looks "soccer mom". I would have liked to see either a lower neckline or maybe make it a cutaway tank or halter style to show off her shoulders better.

Her hair, while obviously gorgeous, also looks a little dated at that length and in that style. With a different dress it would have looked "classic Hollywood glamour" which is always a safe choice. But because of the way the top of the dress was cut, it further emphasized this kind of matronly soccer mom vibe I was getting. I would be interested to see it in a slightly more editorial, high fashion style, to see how it changes the dress -- a few inches shorter and super straight, or a dramatic updo. I'm not sure but something about it just feels too staid and safe.

Then compounding this is the way the fabric shimmer and movement doesn't show up on camera well, and it's rendered in black which reads as plain without those elements.

The fabric is stunning and I do like how it moves but I think there are more problems here than just it not photographing great. I think people just love Jen Garner and are being really generous. It was not one of the best looks of the night and is ultimately pretty forgettable.

Well, we're all allowed our opinions and mine is that her dress was easily one of the best of the night. And that has nothing to do with whether I like Jennifer Garner or not, just that she looked impeccable from head to toe.

Next up! JLaw. I know she's already been discussed in this thread, but let's revisit:

Look, just as with Emma Stone, just huge, huge props here to Jennifer and her trainer because, damn. And it occurs to me that both these ladies were fairly recently and publicly pregnant, and this is a way for them to announce to their extremely image-conscious industry that they did the thing and "snapped back" just like they were supposed to. And also, this is not a dress. It's not even a figure skater costume. This feels frankly risqué for wedding night lingerie.

Her hair and makeup is flawless though. I love these bangs on her and I want a step by step tutorial on her eye makeup -- the combo is great.

But also that weird stole thing looks dumb and, given how freaking naked she is, also comical. Like, oh don't worry, I'll cover up! I brought the world's shortest bolero jacket but will just dangle it from my wrists so that it covers part of my butt crack. Perfect.

In the "Babes Who Nailed It" category, I'd like to start off with a personal favorite, Kiki Dunst. And I'm gonna give you the back first because... hot damn.

But also the color is stunning and she still looks like herself, this is so simple and chic:

I loved Emma Stone's ensemble. It looks blocky and strange from the front, but the side and rear views are great. The top has some interest under the arms which isn't noticeable until she turns. And I absolutely love her hair - the bob is that perfect slightly messy style that I can never achieve on myself.

Another babe nailing it: Renate Reinsve. This *might* be my favorite dress of the night. Also, see Sentimental Value, she's so good -- such a commanding presence onscreen even when she's being completely vulnerable. Wow.

Still:

Yes, just gorgeous except straight on where it looks very stupid.

Chase Infiniti in a quirky high fashion look that works, IMO. Shocked to realize this is Louis Vuitton. Right dress, right girl.

Also she's fantastic in One Battle After Another, holds her own next to Leo. Sorry I originally thought you were a new credit card rewards plan, Chase! Looking forward to seeing her in more things.

Sarah Snook, also nailing it. When I saw her in this dress, I could *feel* the moment she tried this on with the stylist and they both went, "yup." I know some people will find it a bit matronly and lace too much, but I feel like this dress was made for her and that it wouldn't look right on most other actresses. Also her hair looks amazing:

Ok, my other fave along with Renate. Rose Byrne in a Chanel that doesn't feel like every other freaking Chanel. This color is magic. I'm really feeling green for 2026, and this one feels hard to wear and yet she looks perfect. Glad she won in it because now it can be iconic.

I think it would have looked better if it wasn’t a belly baring two piece and instead it was a proper gown with that stiff architectural piece worn on top of the full length gown. Better yet: different color.

Wow, that is a hideous dress.

The color is my favorite thing about it.

It looks like a broken Christmas ornament.

It's not really her fault. For one, she is a brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton who has had just terrible red carpet offerings for the last, hmmmm, ten years, and here is another one. Also, that color is nice on her, so there's that. But this feels like an outfit designed for a very pregnant actress to show off her bump on the red carpet, except Stone isn't pregnant, and in fact kudos to her and her trainer. And yet, when I look at this photo, I feel... uncomfortable. Awkward. It looks like her skirt will fall off. It feels like something is being presented and the fact that it's her lower abs is... weird. I hate looking at it, and also I can't stop looking at it.

Also, after just absolutely slaying the entire evolution of her shaved Begonia head through pixieland, I am finding this short bob and its current styling extremely meh. Again, color is great, so glad she has settled back into this red. But the cut and styling feels unfinished.

I do not love this hair style and length on anyone really.
