Did I hear this right?

I don’t even know it’s legal. Basically it’s like a charter school for two years but open for only certain area.

Seriously? The School Board needs to step in now.

What an awful thing to do to the community. She needs to go now.

Get someone with a modicum of common sense.

What is her plan? See how many show up and then draw the boundaries?
Sports? Activities?

This is ridiculous.

Whaat? Seriously? Why even open the place? Finish the construction in peace.

They have talked about Sports and Activities. The school will not open as part of VHSL, kids will be assigned to a "base school" for sports and if there's enough interest, FCPS will provide transportation.

As they get more kids, then they will have enough to join the sports league.

Yes. Now, let's see what will happen.

Chantilly: people are happy with Chantilly. No one wants to leave. So, how many does she expect to go to KAA?
Result: Overcrowding continues at Chantilly.

South Lakes: Some prefer IB, I guess. I sense that most don't and will choose to go to the new school. And, it won't be just Floris and Fox Mill--though it will be primarily Floris and Fox Mill.

Oakton: While parents of younger kids appear anxious for the new school, some won't. Not sure how this will play out. I'm sure there are some who will wish to give up the bus ride.

Westfield: I suspect most from the KAA area will choose the new school. The ones who are really, really into sports will probably choose Westfield. Likely to get kids from outside KAA area.

Centreville: I don't expect anyone from Centreville unless they have a personal beef.

So, the schools that need relief the most will not get it.

And, this continues to keep neighborhoods upset for at least one more year.

Sounds to me like Reid has heard too many conflicting opinions and is throwing up her hands.

I think she was so set on a fancy academy that she did not plan for anything else.

At this point:

Suggestion 1.

Delay KAA opening for a year. Set the boundary for the school. i have a preference--to me it is clear, but it is not up to me. Open with 9-11 in 2027. Hire a solid, enthusiastic principal who will hire teachers and coaches, band leaders, etc.

Drop comprehensive boundary study. Make boundary adjustments where needed. for overcrowding.

Go back to original plan:
Set boundary.
Open with 9/10
Hire a strong principal with a vision.
Hire good coaches and field JV teams.

No discussion of "career path" until the schools is fully operational.

OMG I laughed so hard at the mom who was like "Crossfield families are the ones who make Oakton great, keep us at Oakton."

If you move them to Western, then they will make Western great!!

That person is lying. All she said was that students who are 7th and up will have the choice to go to their current base school, so they don't know what the numbers are going to be in the fall. That's literally it.

I hope you are right.

They need to get a principal NOW. Not an interim one. Someone who is enthusiastic about the school as a traditional high school.

They already have a former executive principal who is stepping out of retirement

At the boundary meeting! I'm still there.

She was ridiculous talking about home values too. As if that’s a convincing argument. She went on way too long and whatever she was trying to say about transportation at the end didn’t even make sense. She basically said some part of the Crossfield area is pretty far from Oakton… uh yeah that’s why there was a proposal to move them. Maybe she was trying to throw some streets under the bus saying her street should stay at Oakton but some other should be moved lol

Shoot I completely forgot about that meeting this morning. Any other notable comments?

That's not what she said at all. This PP is either really bad with comprehension and completely misunderstands what Reid said or deliberately trying to mislead you.

I can concur this was my interpretation as well. She kept referring to it as an "Opt-in" for the first few years until the "hard" boundaries went into effect with 4 full classes.
